  • Apple iPhone: Why Slightly Bigger Means Much Better [View article]
Crazy to think that the next generation of the iPhone is already being produced and is expected to smash the records again. Apple has outperformed the S&P by 25% over the past year and should continue this trend going forward.

  • Apple: What's A Proper Buyback? [View article]
    Bill,

Paradoxically, Apple does better with its buyback if the stock price stays depressed. A too high valuation will gimp the accretive effect of buying back shares in terms of EPS and saved dividend payments.

I wish Apple would trade below $90 again so I could add. I bought big in 2012/2013 and my only regret was not buying more. Apple is as dominate now just how Microsoft was back in the 1990s. I say this as a compliment :)

  • Apple: The Patriots Couldn't Even Deflate This Quarterly Result [View article]
    Bill,

I hate your title (so bored of that controversy), but love your article.

Is it not weird that China demand exceeded expectations? After all, iPhones over there are seen as status symbols. Android phones has a negative stigma in many markets due to so many low-quality copycats.

  • Apple's Last Chance To Dominate The High End [View article]
    Ashraf,

A "crack" or an actual fact? It absolutely does have to do with the article as your conclusion noted that apple was "Dead money at best."

    Ashraf,

Obviously I did, hence my reply.

If you want a more specific critique I would argue you are not making a good case with the market share data.

Apple is a US focused company while Samsung is more international. Of course Samsung is going to do well overseas, that is their territory. You should be incorporate US market share data to get a better picture.

Also, you are missing a key detail: Apple's volumes grew y/y. This was the case even with the "smaller" 5s. Size of phones is only one factor for consumers.

Apple is hardly dead money. Instead it has faced PE contraction as its growth prospects decline. It is simply too big to grow fast and is priced with an appropriate PE ratio. Also, Apple is number one where it counts, namely the US.

Want an example of dead money? Take a look at Intel's 10 year chart.

    richbar,

let us assume that Apple's EPS declines 25% for 2013 compared with 2012 (which is a big assumption btw), the company earned $44 last year, so this leaves us with EPS of $33, for a PE of 13.. for a comparsion, KO has close to a 20pe

    bgold,

Apple cannot afford to share space with Samsung in the "top tier" smartphone market.. the iPhone is Apple's cash cow

    pagreen,

I totally agree with you on PGH... http://bit.ly/Z5mfTe

    Long PGH

I really do hope that Apple raises its dividend soon. an increase to 40% of TTM eps would give apple a 4% yield...
