My grandfather was a WW II war correspondent for a newspaper called The Daily Telegraph, based in London. He spent part of the war with General Montgomery chasing "The Desert Fox", Field Marshall Erwin Rommel, as the allies fought the Germans in Africa.

His office was a fascinating place, filled with books about the war and stacks of newspapers and magazines. One of the magazines was Forbes, which chronicled the successes and failures of companies and investors. I started reading Forbes and The Wall Street Journal when I was ten and quickly became fascinated by the stock market.
