Horsehead's zinc mines came from the break up of Gulf+Western Industries conglomerate. The mines were in G+W's New Jersey Zinc subsidiary.

When I was an auditor for Gulf+Western, I audited the mines in Silver City, NM and Gilman, CO (in the Rockies, near Vail).]]>

As a human being, you choose to express your cynicism via negative commenting and self-aggrandizement rather than just taking these blogs with a grain of salt, as most people would do.

There's probably a fair share of people on this site that are involved in valuation, M&A, VC, etc - very few of those people feel the need to express what they do on a normal basis in order to justify their comments. Even fewer feel the need to criticize other people's analysis.

If you want to know anything more than what a person has written, ask once, and then do the research yourself if they don't provide you with an adequate answer.

I was an auditor for Gulf + Western and audited the zinc mines (New Jersey Zinc sub.) in Silver City, NM, and Gilman, CO, a company mining town near Vail, CO, prior to the bust up of G + W which included the creation of Horsehead.

Bill Flatley was CFO of Gulf + Western over the audit staff, and became VP at Horsehead. ]]>

But I've noticed it doesn't pay any dividends. So what's the value of owning a stock just hoping someone else will pay more for it later?]]>

However, even in the near term would the company not take a beating on low zinc prices and further more on lower steel production. Steel capacity utilizations in January and February have been less than 50% and this could impact raw material supply. I do not know if the market currently factors this in the price.

Thanks for pointing out this interesting company. ]]>

I use to own a bit of that.
