Why '2 Billion Hours' Only Strengthens The Netflix Short Case [View article]
okay...
we all know NFLX has a great product... the problem is like you even mentioned... its too good to be true. AAPL could sell 2 billion Ipads if they sold them for $50.00 but they'd lose money. NFLX is losing money and subs a double wammy.

In a market liquidation silver and gold miners will be crushed. That being said, look how gold and silver have responded post big liquidation. During the great depression gold juniors were 10x the best asset class. Look at silver post 2008 relative to other asset classes. Nice performance.

Nice piece and i agree with your thesis.
I am long some AAPL 400 Feb calls. My question become who is left to buy shares of AAPL? With every instution and mutual fund already owning shares of AAPL, will there be enough buyers at these levels to propel the stock higher? I would love to hear your opinion on the idea that maybe there are no AAPL buyers left regardless of how great the sentiment, fundamentals and price action are.

Last night I rented a movie fromm Itunes for $5.00 for 24 hours. So NFLX thinks it can give away hundreds of movies for $8.00? What does NFLX think AAPL is dumb? I would have loved to be a fly in the room when that NFLX team set the streaming price of $8.00. "What do you think we should charge for all this content? I mean, $8.00 is pretty cheap right? lets go with that." really? AAPL charges $5.00 per movie and you think you can do it for unlimited movie and $8.00 a month!?

wow. i hope every NFLX bull is exactly like this guy ^^^
thanks for reminding us that 2011 is in fact over, that Reed Hasting is some divine god, and that with a book value of $8.00 NFLX is takeover candidate.
no one is asking about the profitability of this number. 2 billion hours watched that's great! but did NFLX make any money off it? MCD could sell 2 billion big macs at 25 cents but would they make any money off it!? Does AAPL come out with weird statements about their performance? this is suspicious i think it provides a nice short opportunity

Doug,
This price run in up in AAPL is the market already pricing in a huge beat. The question becomes who is still left to buy AAPL stock at $440? Every mutual fund, etf, and institution already owns AAPL. Will there be more buyers than sellers? Maybe these sellers know something we dont.
Netflix (NFLX +6.9%) shares are soaring, making it not only the best performing stock in the S&P 500 today but for the year so far, up 22%-plus on no news. The stock that had been "the plaything of momentum traders" last year apparently has resumed its old role, Mark Gongloff cracks. [View news story]
you're asking the wrong questions... investing is about "cool" ideas. its about companies making money. NFLX isn't making money offering streaming deals for $8.00. If it seems to good to be true... it usually is...
