  • Skechers and Nike: Two Great Brands - One on Sale [View article]
Forgive me if I'm wrong on the toning trend...I've been wrong before... ;o) I took the fact from the CEO's comments during the conference call that they are seeing a slowing in that category. Either way, I hope you're right and the CEO is wrong, b/c that makes SKX even more attractive.... ;o)

  • 6+ PE prior to Christmas Sales = Extreme Strong Buy [View instapost]
Thanks so much for the insight. I really apprecite it. I got the 287 mil. right off the Q3 10k for "total liab." - can you clarify further... - thanks.

Really good to know about the "shape-ups" if that is the case, than SKX is an even better investment.

Good to know about the buy back as well. I recently read the family that owns the co. is very passionate about growing it - so always good to find a company where the founders are still passionate...

    again thanks.

  • Wall Street's Not Acknowledging Western Digital's Potential [View article]
The management team is solid and intelligent, it's hard to imagine a scenario - after 40 years of successful operation where they mis an obvious trend, that is so much in plain sight of everyone else. Not saying its impossible, but their efficiently manage operation belies intelligent decisions. Typically companies that mis obvious trends are also not well managed - the two go hand in hand.

just a thought - but certainly could be wrong.

  • Surging Commodities Create Window of Opportunity [View article]
    David,

thank you for your article and insight. One point you may want to consider however, is that if people become poorer, they are far more liklely to buy chicken than beef or pork, which on average are about 50% more expensive. If the economy continues to slid, chick should benefit, particularly if beef and pork already are experiencing an organic increase in price due to lower production - it seems that all food prices will rise, particularly those protein sources which depend heavily on corn futures - other dynamic affecting corn prices is the increasing competition from ethanol production - just this week the EPA allowed e-15 - which is 50% increase in ethanol allowed in fuel mix for cars mfg'd after 2007. • Chicken Companies Choking on Corn [View article]
JT thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. The thought occured to me that the wings and the feet, likely make up a good part of the margin, but if SAFM has been profitable w/o Russia, even if sales to China slow, you have to figures, the increased exports to Russia will off-set it. Also, companies, who are good and managing their equity can always implement other cost cutting measures if the China situation does have a large impact on revenues - good management teams, as SAFM appears to have, are usually plastic in that way.
