"She also doesn't see any major new products on the horizon to act as catalysts"

Does U2 count as a catalyst?

    Buin,

Nuance takeout would probably be in the $8 billion range - not sure where $100 million came from. After wasting $3 billion on Beats (should have been the leader in iHeadphones and subscription streaming themselves), now they'd be paying $8 billion to hold on to another technology they should have been innovating on their own....

    Raphael,

Once he's sold his Apple, which could happen at any time, that's not a problem.

    Imvho,

I don't like to invest on what a company could do, I invest based on what they are doing and have done. Apple hasn't done much leapfrogging lately, just catch-up with a smart watch that won't come out until next year, bigger screens to keep up with Samsung, non-existent response to Google Glass. I'll incorporate leapfrogging in my thesis when Apple actually does it.....

    Imvho,

"You forgot 'None of the above.'"

That would be included in reason number one, do nothing and watch Samsung take Siri.

Could Apple come up with their own? Sure. But how long will it take? Like the watch and smart glasses, this would be yet another area where Apple is trying to play catch-up.

    Stevesko,

"even if Siri depended on Nuance tech (which it does not)"

    What is this based on?

    Kahokfan,

Many have proposed the break-up of Nuance, but it cannot happen since there are not separate companies, but one company operating in four distinct market segments all leveraging the same core technology. Any spun-off segments would be a shell with no technology unless they licensed it back from the mother company, in which case what is the point of buying the spun-off company in the first place. A buyer would have to be willing to continue to operate in all of these markets to make the purchase worthwhile. That leaves Apple to expand and dilute it's focus, or pay for market penetration that they will simply write off.

    Spiny,

What use is a Siri that can't speak or listen. Without the Nuance tech to drive the speech, what will the engine do?

    Jay,

If Siri is garbage then how did it ever make it's way onto the iPhone. And why didn't Apple replace it with something better long ago?

He's free to sell his Apple stock at any time, just as he did with Netflix when it hit all time highs....
