  • Alcatel-Lucent selected by Vodafone Group as worldwide reference provider of LTE metro cell technology for high-traffic areas [View article]
No wonder. Michel Combes was Vodafone's CEO before joining Alcatel-Lucent. But, good news in any case. The Shift Plan continues as planned by management.

  • Tesla's Fuel Cell Threat [View article]
In any case, German engineers have developed solar cells that produce hydrogen directly http://bit.ly/1jaYrMu and, alternatively the massive wind power build-out in Denmark, The Netherlands, Germany and… the U.S. (!) brings hydrogen production at extremely little cost.

Maybe SolarCity or Vestas are better investments in the long run : )

  • 10-month highs for BlackBerry amid short-covering, healthcare news [View news story]
"Citron Research recently talked up BlackBerry's efforts…"

Yes, pundits are talking the talk, like John Chen. Like at the January/March hot-air spike, BlackBerry is an excellent short candidate again. BlackBerry is an options ATM without PIN. Enjoy!

Remember when the Prius was launched at the Tokyo Motor show aeons ago? Too costly. Too complex. Too ugly. Nobody needs it. Nobody will buy it. Nobody gets hybrids.

To date, Toyota sold +6m Priuses.

Is TSLA a buy here? I think not. Not here and not in the future.

  • Two More Fires: Tesla Is Back On The Front Pages [View article]
In 1989 I crashed in a 1986 Volkswagen Golf, nearly head on, at around 75 mph, with no airbag. The car did not split in half. In fact, it could be repaired. Me and my co-driver suffered minor neck injuries. We were lucky, but like science fiction it felt not.

  • Two More Fires: Tesla Is Back On The Front Pages [View article]
"Zacks’ analyst wrote, “We are downgrading Tesla to Underperform from Outperform based on the company’s continuous losses, high research and development (R&D) and selling, general and administrative (SG&A) expenses, and production constraints such as shortage of battery supply. Tesla is also facing opposition to its direct-selling model in some U.S. states, which might lower sales volumes. Moreover, limited demand for electric cars and high prices are resulting in low market penetration for Tesla. The “B-” credit rating from S&P is also a headwind. Tesla reported adjusted loss of $0.14 per share in the first quarter of 2014, deteriorating from break-even results recorded in the year-ago quarter. The loss was wider than the Zacks Consensus Estimate of a loss of $0.10. “"

$TSLA beware the China euphoria http://bit.ly/1vUOqDo that is supposed to replace the Norway euphoria, which replaced the U.S. euphoria…

Meanwhile, Mercedes and Audi are reporting record sales of high-end cars in China http://on.mktw.net/1vU...

However, the BABA IPO may occur just at a time of an overall market downturn. Lucky numbers are one thing, market uncertainty yet another.

  • Apple: Why The Cash Issue Is So Important [View article]
A very good article, not so much actionable, but highly informative about a topic commonly overlooked or discarded as low on the agenda.

Apple really has turned into a bank with a consumer electronics department attached. I am certain Apple's management knows the issues you outlined above in great detail. An infinitely rising cash pile abroad is unsustainable in the long run, dead money. I expect Apple to rather sooner than later pursue major acquisitions to put its cash to good use in order to grow and secure the business long term, no matter what politicians may or may not decide on the U.S. tax situation. In the end, Tim Cook is too concerned about Apple's long-term business to let cash accumulate abroad indefinitely without using it meaningfully.

Having accumulated YHOO for over a year, I must say I'd be somewhat less exuberant. The BABA story is well known since long and a bit stale now and certainly priced in to a large extent. And, in any case, Yahoo! must turn around its core business faster that it currently does. If smart and large investors believe Yahoo! to be a one-hit-wonder on the back of BABA, it may not move so very much higher from here, taking the very slow turnaround and a possible downside earnings surprise next week into account.

I am pessimistically optimistic on YHOO.
