  • For Higher Returns, Avoid These 2 Investment Biases [View article]
Thanks, Kenneth. Confirmation bias is definitely another one to remain vigilant about. SA can often help by offering a greater breadth of information (pro and con), but it's still up to us to interpret and weight each in a fair way, which can be a challenge.

  • Facebook Q3 Earnings Preview: Recapturing Control Of The Narrative, And What Needs To Be Said [View article]
I very much agree with the previous comments - great article! Thanks for the thoughtful write-up. I'm not entirely convinced that they'll be able to change the narrative with one earnings release, but restoring investor confidence needs to start somewhere.

  • Gambling With Investments, An American Pastime [View article]
Did you reference Stroman knowing that he is now facing a 50-game suspension for a positive drug test? (http://bit.ly/Q3KI5U). If not, I think that offers some nice support for your argument of going with what you know.

  • Research In Motion's Positive Surprise [View article]
Still pretty ugly. With the anticipation/wait around BB10, those devices better be able to read minds or something in order to capture some positive share of the market's imagination.

  • The 20 Most Popular Stocks On Seeking Alpha Over The Last Month [View article]
Interesting. Given the small base these stocks are starting from, I imagine the list of stocks with the highest subscriber growth (in numbers) looks fairly different????

  • Canadian Banks Raise Dividends, The Big 5 Are Buys [View article]
Nice review. Thanks, Bob! I've been debating which of the big 5 to add to my RRSP portfolio. CM has a good retail franchise and has signaled some shareholder friendly intentions recently, so it's currently at the top of my list, but I'm just not sure about pulling the trigger right now.

  • The Myth Of China's Export Economy [View article]
I was wondering about this as well. As development progresses, it seems counter-intuitive that higher-skill inputs (e.g. electronic components) would decrease (although it would make sense that lower-skill ones would decrease due to cost-pressures).

  • Can Seeking Alpha User Behavior Predict Stock Market Direction? [View article]
Interesting idea! It would be cool to see how the predictive-ability of the SA model compares to one that tracks sentiment in the mainstream financial media (not sure what data you can grab for the IVs is there). Content on SA drives subscription, and content is often reflective or derivative of that in the mainstream media (although the relationship may be stronger across some industries than others, depending on depth of coverage and interest in the community). This is one reason I might imagine there would be quite a bit of overlap, with some divergence occurring thanks to the unique contributions of popular SA authors.

  • Why Do We Own Stocks? [View article]
Nice article. You offer some clear criteria by which to evaluate potential stock investments. Based on your title, I thought you were going to a different place (e.g. why, more abstractly, we own stocks as a particular asset class), but I guess that's another article.
