  • Can Groupon Survive? [View article]
This assumes businesses are making any money off of these 'deal-oriented' customers. Another apparent concern is that this type of 'couponing' cheapens the brand.

  • Retirement Strategy: Portfolio Update - Time To Take Profits In An Overbought Market (Part 29) [View article]
Great comment. I'm definitely guilty of selling my winners and holding my losers (perhaps something to do with the fact I don't have a mission statement). Something to work on...thanks!

  • The Future Of Facebook Is Mobile Payments [View article]
Agreed, Whitehawk. There's going to be lots of competition in this space (everyone seems to want a piece), and others are better positioned from a credibility perspective. I can see how FB might benefit from a partnership with Paypal, but Paypal seems to be growing just fine on its own.

  • PepsiCo Taps A Huge Market [View article]
Interesting. I hadn't heard about this JV yet, but it leads to so many possible NP options (e.g. Pepsi flavored yogurt drinks, cooling Doritos dips, post work-out Gatorade yogurt drops ;). Do you know what banner they are launching products under? Quaker would seem to be a good fit.

Nice article. Although some industries are obviously less prone to technological disruption than others.

  • Why You Should Be Bearish On Whole Foods Market [View article]
Nice analysis! Thinking through their competitive position (e.g. using a lens like Porter's), it seems like their margins are also ripe to be 'eaten away' over time.

  • What Mark Penn Will Do For Microsoft [View article]
Agreed. Vanity Fair had some very unflattering things to say about Ballmer and MS (http://vnty.fr/Oh5HCj). It seems like any new innovation that gains traction in the marketplace (e.g. Xbox) succeeds in spite of a very stifling corporate culture. More focus on 'doing' and less focus on trying to be what they're not (e.g .cool like Apple) would seem to serve them well.
