  • Durable Goods Report: Cautious Stance on Communications Equipment [View article]
    Neat data.

You could also look at it and conclude whenever the moving average of orders touches the shipment line, there is growth in shipments, which would imply GS made the wrong call.

Do you have a link to the data discussed?

  • A Tough Market Shouldn't Detract From Apple's Value [View article]
Carl- in a world where everyone pretends they are an Apple analyst (note there are at least 10 SA articles this morning) you have credibility. But as I have said, Apple is a highly discretionary consumer products company and when consumer spending hits the skids, so does Apple. Macro trumps all.

  • Xilinx F3Q08 (Qtr End 12/31/07) Earnings Call Transcript [View article]
The new paged format for conf call transcripts is frustrating. It makes it impossible to quickly search the text for a keyword - like "Telecom".

I know the goal is more pageviews but advertisers notice these things....

  • Semis With Highest, Lowest Production To Sales Ratio [View article]

Big error here. The production effect and the impact on gross margin applies only to companies that own their fab. Fabless companies do not see Gross margin move as 2000 wafers from TSMC costs the same as 1500.

You need to remove all fabless revenue to make this a meaningful study.

  • Reading Between the Lines To Spot the Next Cisco [View article]
    Nice article.

The answer is pretty simple. The inventory is still there, it just isn't at Cisco. It's sitting on the supplier shelves as they now have to stock buffer inventory so their customers can have lean inventory. Worse yet, it is sitting on a distributor shelf and the supplier is paying points for it.
