Hard to agree...You are taking the assumption you know the future... Either of the three options can happen.
1. Yes - a non trending market can occur
2. Deflation can speed up and prices fall further...thus trend followers will profit again..
3. Inflation can pick up and Trend followers will benefit...

Last year trend followers made money in the beginning of the inflationary period and later in the deflationary period..

The fact that is trend following is a long term outlook in nature...granted with many periods of draw downs and aggravation...
In order to get to the end of the rainbow ( compouding your way to wealth) you will get wet in the process before you possibly get to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow..
