Investments That Profit From Inflation [View article]
Very few are immune from inflation - but some do better than other. Commodity stocks do well, but manfucturing stocks do worse. I guess basic goods (must have) companies are somewhat immune as are tech companies with large overseas markets. But you need to look at stocks/companies on a case by case basis.
Ten Quality Dividend Stocks for 2011 [View article]
Thanks for all the comments folks. As some people have said, these are stocks for 2011 and the future (not to trade). I think the next 6 months will present some good buying opportunities for quality companies.
The housing market will recover....everyone is just looking at the worst cast scenario now. IF you wait for a recovery, then you may end up just buying great companies at a much more expensive price.
Finally, not all the stocks are right for everyone. These are 10 stock ideas for 2011. Do your research and pick what's right for you.
How to Cash In on Visa and Mastercard [View article]
Hey – if you find a trend that works then power to you. What you said doesn’t sound that far fetched either, it is just another sign that the international market is where the growth is and that is why Visa is advertising so heavily and trying to build it's brand. Most people here think that Visa = credit card. Yet most credit cards are issued by banks. They are trying to create the same perception overseas, so that banks there will be forced to use Visa processing and branded systems (as indicated the Visa logo on cards).

Great analysis here. As a fellow pf blogger, I have signed up with a number of brokers you mention in the article and from my review - www.savingtoinvest.com... - the new brokers on the block have must more effective cost offerings (with less "stuff") than the existing guys. Thanks to google finance and others, go with the low cost guys if you are a regular joe trader.
2009 Country Stock Market Performance: Things Already Aren't Pretty [View article]
What a difference a year makes. 20% topped the list in 2008, and this year it would barely make the list.In my review of 2009 stock market performance, www.savingtoinvest.com..., BRIC countires continue out performance and are clearly the place to be.
Berkshire's Downgrade: Rating Agencies Become More Irrelevant [View article]
Berkshire and General Electric (GE) now have the same credit rating from Moody's when Berkshire has roughly 10 times GE's tangible book value. As Whitney said, the inconsistency "underscores why no sane investor should pay any attention to the credit rating agencies."
Tim Geithner vs. The American Banking Elite [View article]
Blame. Blame. Blame. There are many parties and reasons for the current economic downturn. It's not what happened that matters, but how we get out of the current mess and ensure we have the right controls in place to avoid repeating the same mistakes in the future.
Some good analysis here. But looking at the longer picture based on some analysis I wrote about, I think Gold may have more going for it than not. Deflation and slow growth may be short term issues, but as the stimulus kicks in and an economic recovery starts. gold could become a big hedge against the subsequent inflationary pressures.
I bought Google at $700 and Apple at $186. Unfortunately I bought just before they crashed (live and learn), but I believe in the long term outlook for the best 2 tech companies. Still holding on and perhaps get some more.
Great article. I like BAC, but to avoid single company risk, prefer the UYG trade for short term gains. (I recently wrote about this trade here at SA). In regards to the bailouts, I am not too happy about them, but do feel that they were necessary to keep the integrity of the financial system intact. Just look at the ripple effects of Lehmann Bro's going under.
Banking on a Rally for Quick Profits [View article]
User 290548 - I bought the stock yesterday @ 2.90 (this article was published a day later here at SA). So I am up for now.
outtamojo - $2000, may not be big money for you, but it is a lot for some. Like I said, this is a risky/spec opportunity so did not want too put too much capital at risk. If I get a double on the stock, I will be happy to walk away with $2K. I have done this trade about 3 times before and overall am up 8K on it. Not bad with 2K at risk....

It will be intersting to see how these finished up. I looked at the various indexes and there was a minor end of year rally, but only one stockmarket (Tunisia) finished in positive territory for the year!
My Top 10 Market Predictions for 2009 [View article]
Some strong predictions here. Here's where I have a different viewpoint. I don't China's growth will slow to 2% (more like 6%) and civil unrest is unlikely as the government will keep spending its vast cash reserves. I also think the Obama administration will be more active than you have suggested.
