  • Apple unveils iPad Air 2; thinner design, Touch ID, less glare [View news story]
I'm pleasantly surprised, esp with the fact that Apple is keeping previous models at lower price points. This should help sales volume without damaging margins too much.

  • Apple's iWatch Is About Data First, Fashion Second [View article]
Article is a bit light in terms of data and analysis but it's a fresh (and welcome) perspective. Headline is spot on. Since it's about data, the actual question is about where the sensors will be located: On your wrist (watch/bracelet), on your head (Google Glass) or in your pocket (phone)? Compare Apple's implementation of health and sensory data capabilities in iOS 8 with the physical data provided by iBeacon and a compelling picture emerges. Long AAPL

  • Hints Of Bottoming For Twitter [View article]
The challenge is that TWTR has to grow users, engagement, and ad rev simultaneously. Thus far, it appears mgmnt is moving much slower than the market would like. There's still potential here though as TWTRs most avid users are a desirable demographic. This could be a buy in the mid twenties but could easily drop another 20% with another weak qtr. Disclosure: bought n flipped IPO; recently opened a position at $30.

  • Get Out Of Bitcoin Now [View article]
It's not "Mount Gox"--it's "M T Gox" which stands for Magic the Gathering Online Exchange, the sites original incarnation and purpose. MTGox has had problems for a long time and I was surprised that ppl were still using them. I'm not entirely convinced that Bitcoin will be the alt currency that succeeds, but something like it will. In the near term, it's an interesting sociological experiment. Also fun for occasional bouts of buy low/sell high. FWIW, I use Coinbase, which is backed by Andreessen Horowitz.

  • OCZ resumes trading, shares crater [View news story]
The writing was on the wall for OCZ for over a year. Anyone still holding at this point was a pure speculator.

  • BlackBerry Deal Tests Limits On M&A Creativity [View article]
Article makes great points. All serious PE and investment shops have already passed. If Fairfax does get financing, it's going to come at a premium and with significant obligations attached that will likely hamstring the company going forward. Fairfax will end up with something close to 'vulture capital'.

  • What Happened To Apple's Funeral? [View article]
Apple launched the 5s/c in more countries than ever before. Apple is effectively an international company while most analysts sales checks appear to be focused on N America. In partial defense of Munster, the number of phones actually sold to customers is relevant. However, Apple has contracts with vendors and is certain to get paid. I'll eat my hat if Apple has to take a charge on unsold inventory (ala MSFT, BBRY)

  • Microsoft's Surface Pro: Second Time's A Charm? [View article]
The 2nd Gen Surface will certainly be "less bad" than the 1st Gen, but it is still unlikely to drive top line growth as consumer markets do not seem to find the operating system/form factor compelling. Most users do not seem to WANT a keyboard and Windows OS on their tablet.

That said, the Surface can still perform a useful function: Haswell will provide the capabilities for a near-laptop experience on the Surface for enterprise customers. This should temporarily stanch the bottom line bleeding in note/net/ultrabook sales.

However, as other commenters have noted, Chromebooks seem to be eating into the "devices with keyboards" market. Given the price point, it seems that Chromebooks are stealing share from MSFT and not AAPL but the data aren't completely clear on this.
