  • Would Hedge Fund Registration Have Helped Madoff Investors? [View article]
    Registration may have helped steer away banks like HSBC and UBS who are supposed to be serious about due diligence. They pay people to read Form ADV. It would not have deterred funds like Fairfield Greenwich, who perform zero due diligence and invest with hot hands to give them a hot quarter. It will never deter referrals from friends and family, who assign a halo to someone like Madoff based on prestige and perceived exclusivity.
