Oh boy, $AMD is announcing a partnership with $ARMH on server chips. This press conference should be fun to listen into.

    • Sal Marvasti: See s like a good idea. Amd can provide a lot of tech like SIMD to arm to make them more compatible with intel performance primitives.

    • Ashraf Eassa: AMD is just licensing ARM's cores and sticking them onto a SoC. No ARM license/custom core. This is a time-to-market/cost reduction move.

    • Sal Marvasti: So they are not adding avx fma long term ? Morgan stanley uses avx, and they could move to arm as everything is c++ + perf functions

    • Sal Marvasti: I would bet they would / could do that long term. Does Arm provide a ready made 64 bit implementation ?

    • Ashraf Eassa: ARM just announced its Cortex A57. That's their 64 bit core that AMD will be using in their SoC.

    • Sal Marvasti: Is that bad for amcc ? Are they building a custom core ?

    • Ashraf Eassa: AMCC is, yes.
