  • Junk Bond Funds Offer The Most Attractive Yield For Investors: A Look At The Western Asset High Income Fund II [View article]
I don't make that assumption. Rates are going higher. We'll learn more next week when the FOMC speaks. Junk bond managers say their fundamentals shouldn't change much with rising rates. I think there will be more selling as in the past. However, over the long haul, junk bond funds have done better than a lot of popular stocks,

I don't know what flatten means. The yield on the 10 year Treasury has risen sharply in the last month & could go higher,

  • Why I Bought Linn Energy 3 Months Ago And Still Like It [View article]
    Steve,

You're working with the BRY-LNCO numbers I used in the article. Hard to argue with that. However, I'm a buy & hold guy. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I'm trying to get my friend to buy BRY & wait for the stock swap. She's a hard sell because she is against fracking.

  • 3 Growing MLPs With High Dividend Yields [View article]
I write about Kinder Morgan, Enbridge Partners & Linn Energy because they have high yields and companion stock corporations that avoid MLP tax hassle. The first 2 are traditional pipeline companies & Linn is upstream (it drills wells & uses fracking). Barron's just wrote another negative article about Linn & their ability to cover distributions/dividends. Its securities sold off, raising yields to around 8%. Linn is switching to monthly payments in July. Buying BRY is a way to buy LNCO at a discount if you accept the added risk of buying LNCO before the merger goes through. I like all 3, but you need to balance risk and reward. Good luck,

  • 3 Growing MLPs With High Dividend Yields [View article]
As I understand it, Kinder took over in 1997 & the company tables begin distribution history in 1997. Bigger picture, that growth is over a long term & difficult for any company to match or exceed.

  • 4 Quality REITs Offering High And Tax Advantaged Yields [View article]
    berloe,

Qualified dividends are from companies that have already paid taxes on their income. REITs have not, so generally that does not apply. Occasionally, there may be a tiny percentage. When that happens, it's not significant. However, the year end tax statement may indicate a portion is treated as return of capital & is not taxable. All REITs publish yearly tables.

    unclemike,

Your own analysis will tell you what's right for your portfolio,

There was a spill near Kalamazoo last year. You heard very little about it because EEP handled the clean up very well. It is covered on the web.

  • Linn Energy Offers An 8% Yield And Growth Supplying Energy To America [View article]
LINE is the MLP, so you sold units which pay distributions. They are largely tax free when it comes time to pay taxes but that brings complications. With LNCO, you get one unit backing each share. The DIVIDEND is pretty much the same as the distribution. At tax time you get a 1099 explaining a portion is qualified dividend & the rest is not taxable (at least presently). Search in Google to learn more,

  • 8 REITs For Tax Advantaged High Yields And Growth [View article]
I have 2 REITs in my traditional IRA & they have performed well. The only tax consequence is that the portion not considered taxable, ordinary income means nothing. Since they are stocks, they issue 1099s at tax time, like all corporations. MLPs have the potential of tax complications in taxable accounts or IRAs.

    Daryl,

Your selling strategy should be discussed with your personal financial adviser.

  • MLPs Offer High Yields And Growth, Building Energy Infrastructure [View article]
EEQ & KMR are corporations that pay dividends with stock. The yield is based on the value of the shares going to stockholders. But there are no 1099s sent out for stock dividends. KMI had its IPO recently. This is a corporation that manages the Kinder Morgan complex and it pays dividends with money. The yield is lower but in its short history, it has been raising dividends.
