  • Why Not To Buy Boeing On Strong Q3 Results [View article]
Given Boeing's earnings release where it beat estimates by quite a bit, and has done so previously, it is very clear that such beat was not reflected in its price. Furthermore, their current forward p/e ratio of 17.7 will likely drop once analysts revise their earnings estimates higher. Boeing's earnings blew most estimates away, and their outlook is even better than anticipated.

Boeing has a duopoly on passenger aircraft (with airbus), and its market cap of about $97 billion can grow phenomenally.

Boeing shares can easily add another $30-$50 to reach $160 to $180 within a very short time span. You simply cannot bet on the aircraft industry through GD and LM.....

  • Will Google Beat Apple To $1 Trillion? [View article]
Thank you for your comment bjnflicks. You make a good point that Apple makes most its money from being able to sell its products to customers, as opposed to giving them away for free... It is a different business model: one that generates revenues from selling advertisements, vs. another that sells products (and pays for advertisements...) .

Yet Google's model is still a compelling one, and aside from private email data mining (which I find controversial), Google has done an incredible job and will have a great future; I just don't think it will overtake Apple in revenues and profits within the next 5 to 8 years, if at all, while Apple continues to be under-appreciated based on its adjusted forward p/e ratio ...

  • Apple Does Something Amazing [View article]
Apple's focus on optimizing chip design has actually been in the works for many years, and part of Apple's semiconductor industry acquisitions including PA Semi, Intrinsity, Passif Semi, etc...

So it is no surprise that Apple has done a good job on this front.

This shows the depth that exists at Apple that many analysts are totally under-estimating given the P/E ratio Apple is trading at...

    Nice article...

  • With IBM Down, Buy And Sleep Sound Like Buffett [View article]
Douglas, you state: "if the share price of IBM goes nowhere Buffett's ownership is $120 million more than if the share price was $275."

If IBM share price goes nowhere, while IBM is repurchasing its own shares, then IBM's total outstanding shares drop and IBM's market capitalization also drops. Hence Buffett's ownership share does not go anywhere; he will have a higher ownership percentage of a lower market capitalization.

Thank you for your comment JMajoris.

Please note dividends were actually mentioned. As stated in the 3rd line of the first paragraph, return since June was 2.52% and 3.09% inclusive of dividends.

  • Apple Earnings And Guidance - Why I Think It Will Beat Analysts' Estimates [View article]
I believe your Q4 2013 estimate is too low. What is your source for the margins applied per product line which you used to go from revenue to profit? Some of them also seem off....

Having said so, and regardless of the method you arrived at your numbers, I agree that Q1 2014 will beat by quite a bit.

  • Wrong About Gold Again? [View article]
No one is bigger than the markets. So in the long term, I do not believe anyone is capable of manipulation as the markets always catch up with you....

In the short terms is it possible that traders may try to play psychology driven games to affect liquidity? Possibly.... but it can always backfire and is not sustainable long term...

  • Wrong About Gold Again? [View article]
Thank you very much Doug. A correction request has been submitted to the editor.

I am somewhat of a market timer, and I believe that sometimes there are better opportune times to enter and exit certain investments. It is controversial, but it is my nature as a trader for the past 26 years.... So once I feel that gold is capped again, or there is a high likelihood for equities to outperform again, I will publish another article...

  • The iPhone Will Be In Third Place In 2015 [View article]
TomasViewPoint Apple can grow its luxury market share by providing smart financing schemes as they have done through the carriers. Such schemes can grow in developing countries such as China, India, etc.... as Apple forges new partnerships with carriers it currently lacks partnerships with.

Luxury is decided by 2 factors: exclusivity as well as high pricing backed by quality. If everyone is wearing Gucci, Gucci would remain a luxury item if it retains superior quality that justifies high pricing. Would everyone still want to wear Gucci when all those around him/her are wearing it? Well, that's the funny thing about human psychology.... There are many hangout "in" spots in Asia and elsewhere, where indeed all those that are eating, dancing, drinking, or whatever they are doing there, are all wearing Gucci, Prada and more, and the fact that everyone else in such joint is wearing it does not stop them from wearing it. As a matter of a fact, they may even feel 'less worthy' if they don't wear it. Believe it or not, I know some people who also want to own Apple products such as iPhone , iPad , and other, primarily because everyone else has it.....

But I do get your point....

  • The iPhone Will Be In Third Place In 2015 [View article]
TomasViewPoint Apple is a luxury brand. Think of it as Gucci. If Gucci introduced clothes to sell at Walmart, Gucci would be gone as it will not be able to compete with lower priced clothes, it will lose its cachet, all its margins and its brand... Apple is doing well as a luxury brand. As incomes rise, more will aspire to own Apple. Apple will only lose in the long run by chasing lower priced products.

Furthermore, once it does so, it becomes an endless pit. Its margins will continuously be under pressure, it will have to cut costs, hence cutting R&D and creative staff, which would force it to produce yet more generic commodity products, which have yet lower margins....
