That's definitely possible. I think they are the least likely to make a bid.

    arbtrdr,

Out of everyone in these comments hounding me about MLPs, your comment is the most clear. I've been doing research on MLPs and will probably write about my thoughts and opinions on them once i have a better understanding. I've written a few articles on REITs, and I used the same valuation methodologies on them that I use on stocks, and they have all seemed like good investments. Upon looking at other MLPs, I'm not one of those people who believe that they are overvalued. I think they're a good investment for dividend investors, it's just that it looks like investors in MLPs tend to accept a higher dividend yield in exchange for losing a small portion of their stakes.

  • 5 Stocks With Payout Ratios Over 100 Percent [View article]
    Smackdown,

I don't know where you get your numbers from. My argument is that these companies pay dividends higher than their earnings. For example in 2010, Plains reported $259 million in cash flow from operating activities, but paid $682 million in dividends. They financed their dividends by raising $296 million in stock and $734 million in debt, and not through their earnings. I believe that borrowing money and issuing more stock to pay dividends isn't value added and isn't sustainable, which is my point in this article. I don't see why you believe otherwise.

Aren't these big projects capitalized on the balance sheet so they don't affect earnings? And I know some of these companies will be able to back up their dividend payments eventually. I just think it's strange how so companies are willing to put there liquidity at risk and have high payout ratios when they could just wait to pay dividends

You're right in that if a company has the free cash flow to make dividend payments, they'll be able to keep making them, but this is only for the short term. If a company does not have the earnings to back up their cash flow, the company either needs to be getting smaller or the fcf needs to stop. I value companies on earnings and not fcf, and many investors do this. I should have mentioned that in the article.

  • American Capital Agency: Higher Yield mREITs Offer Gains - But Also Risks [View article]
I don't think their dividend yield will increase. I think that buying AGNC could give the investor a constant dividend while the prices of the shares increase, bringing its dividend yield down to levels similar to other mREITs.

  • How Gold Mining Companies' Stock Prices Correlate With Gold and Stock Prices [View article]
Sorry Daddycash. All of the stocks are expected to have increased revenue and income. I left out my opinions of gold as an investment because it was outside the scope of my main points. I'll do more research on gold, and I'll try to put out some more articles that answer your questions because I'm sure a lot of readers have the same concerns as you.

Thanks for the correction. I read articles that they missed earnings estimates and their earnings have been declining, but I didn't realize that they are back in the red.

  • What Apple's Profit Margin and P/E Ratio Would Mean for Competitors [View article]
Just to clarify, I'm not saying that these companies are worth this much, I'm saying that they have the potential to be worth this much if they gain Apple's image. And I used Apple's profit margin from the last 4 quarters to factor out seasonality.

  • Annaly Capital Management: A Safe Haven for Investors in Today's Market [View article]
Friday's crash was a result of all of NLY's major shareholders put the same "Sell" number on the stock so when it hit that number, everyone sold their shares. Everyone bought them back immediately and the stock actually increased over the 48 hour period surrounding the crash. It had nothing to do with the FUNDAMENTAL VALUE of the stock and is similar to DOW's flash crash last summer.
