  • Apple Is Trading At 60-75% Premium To Its Sum Of Parts Valuation [View article]
The iPhone 5 has competition from S3 and Lumia 920, while both wont sell as much as iPhone 5 but still the profit margins would shrink in the long run (Apple will have to integrate more expensive technologies in iPhone to compete) On the other hand there are dozens on generic tablets in the market and Nexus, Kindle, Surface and Galaxy are very solid competitors to iPad or rumored iPad mini. We believe in such a highly competitive market profit margins will come down so will growth targets and therefore it warrants valuations more in line with industry.

Forward P/E would be much higher as analysts revise down their eps estimates for 2013/14

We used 2014 estimates in case of RIMM, Nokia to assume normalized level of sales.

The 50% premium we are giving to AAPL is because of the same reasons you mentioned--balance sheet strength!!

You need to accept that the market is extremely competitive now and even AAPL doesnt deserve to trade at extremely high valuations vs the industry.

With so many glitches with i-phone 5, all it deserves is an industry multiple and btw growth rates for NOK could be pretty high if windows phone 8 is a success

Everyone thinks that AAPL is not expensive because sell side is expecting growth rates to be too high. Once they revise down their numbers, it will start looking expensive.

We though SoTP analysis is required here as now AAPL operates in a highly competitive market

You missed the point. Insiders selling does not mean Apple is a bad stock, it just raises the question if they are taking partial profits why shouldn't other investors? can you dispute that?

I will have to respectfully disagree. I think you should go over Apple apology and the CNN survey we hyper linked in our writeup

Thank you Silvy H. that's exactly what we mean-- its a very good time to take partial profits ( ipad mini hype). The market is not the same, while its irrelevant to Apple fan who will continue to buy Apple products, to have loyalty in investing is just amateurish.

you are absolutely right its not the time to panic but taking profits over uncertainty is a key part of investment strategy. As we say Apple has a very loyal consumer base and that's why the market would give it more chances to prove itself.
