Market recap: Markets tumbled across the board - stocks, oil, gold and the euro - as what was already a broad-based decline became a full-fledged selloff after the Fed signaled growing unease about its stimulus efforts. While the S&P and Nasdaq fell more than 1%, the Dow was off only 0.7%, surprising considering the weakness in Caterpillar as it reported a global sales slowdown. [View news story]

What I've decided to do instead is keep my own records (which of course has the drawback of having limited history since I just started) by simply taking the 20 largest transactions per day, which is public information, and is not to time consuming to record, and calculate these ratios so readers have some general idea of what direction the insider windsock is blowing.
Hopefully in a few months we'll have some good ups and downs in the market as well as a longer history in the data set and we can start to see some predictive reoccurring patterns. I'll keep everyone posted in a weekly segment dedicated to insider activity.

Market recap: Stocks posted another mixed showing, as deal optimism offset several weak Q4 GDP readings from eurozone economies (I, II, III). Food stocks climbed, as the Heinz takeover sparked hope for consolidation in the grocery aisle: Kraft, Campbell and General Mills all rose sharply. Energy stocks also were strong, as crude oil prices rose and coal companies spiked higher. Gold, however, settled near six-month lows. [View news story]

Market recap: The Dow and S&P 500 closed at five-year highs amid a rally in financial shares, led by BofA, and upbeat earnings reports from Avon, Fossil and Michael Kors. Techs lagged, as Apple was pressured after Tim Cook failed to provide any indication of a dividend hike. Crude oil gained 0.5% to $97.51, the dollar lost ground vs. the euro and yen, while 10-year Treasurys fell in price to yield 1.982%. [View news story]

Market recap: Stocks ended modestly higher, with the Dow pulling back after breaching 14K but the Nasdaq rising to its best level since Nov. 2000. Among techs, LinkedIn was a notable standout after beating on earnings and revenue. Volume was unusually light, as many traders and other employees didn't show up for work or went home early on fears of the incoming blizzard. [View news story]
