Nobody is saying they will come anywhere close to this. Try 45% and 1500 suns tops.

Albeit Emcore has such a good technology, but why investment community would not give its stock the same multiple as they gave to companies like First Solar? What's the reason behind it? Is the reason having to do with Emcore itself, or something wrong with the III-V CPV solar cell technology?]]>

3)To reach the conclusion that substantially all of the short interest is naked is wrong.Mutual funds are free to loan their shares out(and I wouldn't be surprised if Quercus loaned theirs out or shorted against the box). Also of the approximately 54 million shares held by institutions,10% are held by index funds. They don't do research into the company, they're just trying to replicate an index.
4)Of the insiders holding stock, the one that really matters is Hong Hou,CEO and he only has 118,000 shares after selling half his position last December at a price almost3X where its trading today.
5) Quercus the big inside holder has large holdings in similar questionable companies.I haven't researched their cost basis in EMKR or any other companies in their portfolio, I don't want to because I've done enough homework to realize this stock is nothing more than a long shot gamble, and I'd have just as much luck laying money down on who would win the Super Bowl next year.]]>

We just added the stock into our long term portfolio. It is a steal at $4-$5 level.

One thing concerns me though is how the company is going to turn to profit.

If the company always burns investor's money with no return, no one will buy it.

maybe not a major player, but they did just supply 22 miles of cable to the IBM/LANL roadrunner project. I don't know anything about fiber costs and profit margins, but assume that isn't much of a sale, and may be why you say they are a peripheral player?

As for their solar piece, they have 2 operating 25KW modules on their property. these are 2nd generation modules, and went up very fast. they are now producing the structural module components in Mexico, and have an Albuquerque production line that can make 10,000 populated cell modules in a week (that is, a 3/5 cell mounted to an isolated substrate with a secondary optic enclosure and the necessary interconnects/diodes to wire it in.) some of these cell modules will go into the structural modules being made in Mexico, while some they will sell to customers as-is, for integration into their own modules. The cell module production line was just started in the Spring, and I understand they are now starting a second line, which I assume means they have the demand to justify the capital equipment cost. that might be an assumption that is going to be put to the test, but i'm long on this one.]]>

I hope that their solar piece is true, but I have no information in that regard. All I know, is that their fiber optics piece is not a positive addition.]]>

So it all boils down to installed cost per watt. If Emcore costs more than 5x cost per watt of, say, SPWR or STP then EMKR does not have any economic advantage over standard silicon PV cells.]]>

The logic in the article only makes sense if you ignore the ratio between the large area of the lens and the very small area of the chip surface. Perhaps this ratio is roughly 1:1500?! So you can't use, because the of lens positioning / mechanics 1499/1500 of the available sunlit area to put more PV cells? This is the catch. You only care about the energy gained from a fixed area of the total solar installation (say 1m^2) facing the sun. You do not actually care about the area of the tiny piece of PV chip within the installation. This is because the large lense prevents you from stacking together lots of the PV chips to use sunlight area efficiently.

So it all boils down to installed cost per watt. If Emcore costs more than 5x cost per watt of say SPWR then it does not have an economic advantage over STP.]]>

Who is Brad Ross who is listed on the word document as having last saved this article on the unenergy web site. Who is Brad Ross-Sampson? Are their any links to this article.

Is this simply throwing more mud or does this whole debarcle with Emcore, GGE and now Unergy entering the fray simply stink to high heaven.

One could question with this much stuff flying around if companies are either full of incompetants or is it soemthing worse.

Secondly, can you discuss the cost of the GaAs triple-junction cell? Similarly, when comparing the cost of Emcore's cells to traditional silicon PV technology, you need to include the cost of materials, construction, and maintenance of the concentrator structure itself! And what about the tracking system? We cannot just compare one cell with one cell.

39% really is awesome, but let's not leave out these important factors...]]>

The Citron site referred to (in comments above) has been accused by the SEC of fraud in the past and is a short group trying to profit on misinformation. Anyone doing DD will realize that in several articles and reports from major brokerage houses ALL the Citron claims have been refuted.

Emcore is a great fiber optics play and will become one of the BEST solar "pure" plays once the company splits into two later this year!
