I am an experienced individual investor who has been trading merger arbitrage stocks and options since the 90's. I am a writer with a Master of Science from Northwestern University and I truly enjoy writing articles about the stock market. I try to look for opportunities where the odds are in my favor and there is a definite edge. On Seeking Alpha my articles will aim to provide insight and favorable risk/reward for the readers. However, I am not an investment advisor so any recomendations or ideas I write about in my articles, blogs, or comments shouldn't be taken as investment advice. I recommend using my writings as a starting point to which you should add your own research or that of an investment advisor.
"Any time you make a bet with the best of it, where the odds are in your favor, you have earned something on that bet, whether you actually win or lose the bet. By the same token, when you make a bet with the worst of it, where the odds are not in your favor, you have lost something, whether you actually win or lose the bet."
-David Sklansky, "The Theory of Poker"
Lee is the general partner of Qualitas Capital Management, a private investment partnership that pursues capital appreciation by seeking superior risk-adjusted investment returns. The partnership invests in the public equities of high quality firms with solid and consistent growth prospects that Lee believes are significantly undervalued based on fundamental analysis. The partnership has a flexible mandate to invest across all business sectors, global regions, and market capitalizations. The partnership typically focuses on firms that Lee believes are relatively underfollowed and often misunderstood yet have what he views as attractive businesses, valuations, and catalysts.
Prior to forming Qualitas, Lee was a portfolio manager at Gator Capital Management ("Gator Capital"). At Gator Capital, Lee was responsible for launching and solely managing the Gator Opportunities Fund (the "Fund"), an open-end equity mutual fund registered with the SEC. During Lee's tenure as portfolio manager of the Fund, he delivered annualized returns of 11.2% (Institutional Class) / 10.9% (Retail Class) from the Fund's inception and outperformed Russell 2500® Index benchmark by 573 and 545 basis points, respectively, over that period. The Fund was ranked in the top 1% of 399 funds in Morningstar's peer category in its first year from inception and in the top 13% year-to-date through October. The Fund was also ranked 10th out of 447 funds in Lipper's "category killers" table in April for year-to-date performance (Wall Street Journal, 5/4/15).
Prior to joining Gator Capital, Lee was a member of the Fundamental Equities Group at Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM). Lee's responsibilities at GSAM covered the gamut of the fundamental equities investment process from idea origination, research, analysis, and implementation to portfolio sector construction and management, risk monitoring, and strategic review. While at GSAM, Lee contributed significantly to the successful launch and growth of all-cap, mid-cap, small/mid-cap, and long/short equity investment products. Lee also provided analytical coverage primarily of the industrials and technology sectors across all market capitalizations.
Prior to joining GSAM, Lee was a co-founder of Tower Hill Securities, a merchant banking firm that focused on funding global emerging growth companies across various business sectors. Prior to co-founding Tower Hill, Lee was a founding member of the strategic consultancy Mitchell Madison Group, and an associate in the Financial Institutions/Services Practice of management consulting firm A. T. Kearney. Prior to joining A. T. Kearney, Lee was also a Faculty Lecturer at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson Schools, where he co-taught several courses in applied quantitative and economic analysis with Professors Ben Bernanke and Alan Krueger.
Lee is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a member of the CFA Institute and New York Society of Security Analysts (NYSSA). Lee received his BA from Yale University, his MPA from Princeton University, and his MBA from Stanford University, all with the highest honors and concentrations in economics, finance, and investment management.
An individual investor for over 25 years and previously an accomplished electrical engineer and corporate strategy executive, I use my technical and business analytical approach to improve returns while keeping portfolio risks relatively low in any market conditions. I am not a fan of passive asset allocation as I believe a moderately active but highly systematic adaptive approach offers a better overall risk/reward profile than merely aiming to perform like the market averages. I consider all asset classes within the global financial scene and I make use of advanced signal processing methods to generate better than average returns with less risk.
I approach my selection of investment vehicles from both a quantitative and fundamental point of view. Although I use some technical analysis from time to time, my technical approach tends to rely more on statistical and trend modeling. From a fundamental perspective, I prefer to look for secular trends that provide a tailwind to certain asset classes or sub-categories. I often use mathematical models to time my buys and sells and I combine both my quant and fundamental approaches to identify and capitalize on trends.
Asset classes I invest into include equities, fixed income, precious metals / gold, commodities, real assets (including real estate) and hedge funds / private equity, as the market conditions warrant them.

EXP is a graduate from The University of Wall Street and serves with the goal to assist the small to mid-level investor maneuver through the treacherous waters controlled by Hedge Funds and Market Makers. SA followers only see a very small part of EXP's published research. This is not an easy business. Wall Street trickery is at an "All Time High" these days; brutally fierce and rampant against small retail investors. Trading is psychological in nature, meaning that the market's psychological warfare can be extremely debilitating. EXP works hard to identify and write about current stock opportunities in the market that can produce some huge gains from disconnects in stock prices. These inefficiencies can be taken advantage of if you can properly identify opportunities and then manage to act on them. EXP resides in the USA, and is thankful to followers worldwide.
