Only .8% inflation with massive liquidity and rock bottom oil prices? Data would convey they fundementally can't raise rates for fear of deflation.

  • Brean downgrades DirecTV to Hold; AT&T offer priced in [View news story]
Isn't aquisition price $95 and we are at $87? I'm still seeing a risk premium of $8/share the deal wont close. Yes the gap has narrowed, but a gap still exists.

Thank you for the informative article. I realize the focus was on treasuries, but does your general thesis apply to all investment grade bonds?

3+ year weekly GDX chart shows some evidence of bottoming. Higher aggregate volume and MACD positive divergence, making higher highs while price made lower lows. I think miners are ripe here.

It won't necessarily be growth in aggregate coupon users unless economic situations worsen - more a shift in medium, from traditional paper/print to digital/mobile.

Open your mail box lately? All those paper coupons will eventually go away. In their place will be SALE, ibotta (start-up) and others.

Why? China's appetite has created a floor with minimal upside, ie if/when they decrease consumption the floor falls out and gold continues lower?

  • ProShares launches 4 ETFs for 2x and -2x exposure to gold miners [View news story]
Don't buy gold buy gold miners. Miners are so incredibly decoupled from the price of gold it's insane. We're at 2008 levels when gold was 350 and now it's 1200. Look at the two charts.

  • RetailMeNot's Growth Has Disappeared [View article]
I believe SALE is undergoing a similar transformation as YELP and TWTR, i.e., traditional "web" metrics of valuation such as MAU, revenue/visits, etc. are changing as the platforms mature. In the case of TWTR and YELP user growth is stabilizing and now they are monetizing at a higher rate and importantly growing revenue.

In the case of SALE, the yield of visits (mobile vs. desktop) in changing favorably, which over-time removes the risk associated with dependency on Google SEO as the app (19 mm users) and email (y/y +105%) grow in popularity. The problem is mobile monetizes at a lower rate, so revenue growth is impacted in the near term. My point here is that a binary view fixated on "% growth" undermines the complexity. At the end of the day, it's a function of consumer/retailer relevancy and cash flows. SALE is very relevant, will continue to be so and is generating strong cash flows, reinvested and returned to share holders.

SALE will move higher in my opinion.
