  • Thankless Thursday: Still Waiting For That Stimulus To Kick In [View article]
Without defending pollution, climate change is one those topics that falls short only because we're taking 100 years of data to arrive at a conclusion that requires at least centuries to be reliable.

I shall point to a link from NOAA to provide some food for thought, and it covers major hurricanes between 1851 and 2011.

    http://1.usa.gov/VFY7DE

The other link refers to ACE -- "Accumulated Cyclone Energy - An index that combines the numbers of systems, how long they existed and how intense they became. It is calculated by squaring the maximum sustained surface wind in the system every six hours and summing it up for the season."

    http://1.usa.gov/Szo1ui

You'll see that the maximum kind of repeats itself every 50 years or so.

If one looks at hurricanes (http://1.usa.gov/VFY5f5) and named storms (http://1.usa.gov/Szo1uq) a spike is apparent over the last 5 years or so, and it is declining and reaching for the average.

But to take 100 years of data, never mind 5 years, and draw a conclusion about a planet that has been around for millions of years, is complete silliness at its best

"With 25% unemployment, revenue might go up some if you raise taxes at this point, but it certainly is not maximized as many people can't afford to participate. With a 20%+ VAT, lowering the VAT would probably be more simulative if you could bring more people into the consumer economy."

Phil knows that, but he's just being Phil and practicing for his next job with MSNBC. Or maybe I'm giving him too much credit and he doesn't understand it.

I didn't say I was the only person, but when you point to a video of that quality, it's obvious that you don't know what you're talking about. "How the whole World looks to all of us" is irrelevant.

    All the best.

Phil: I lived smack in the middle of Washington DC politics for years and know quite well how the game is played up there. Although I haven't said it, anyone that knows how the White House works easily comprehends that the President had to know what happened in Benghazi.

Although I am far removed from the political scene, I of all people don't need some documentary about media manipulation provided by someone living in New Jersey that never tasted the dirt of Pennsylvania avenue first hand. And if the video link indicated by you is the evidence you need, you certainly have no clue of what's going on in DC, and propaganda from both sides only scratches the surface. At one point I "interfaced" with Ed Rollins (Reagan) and Hamilton Jordan (Carter), and if you think that what you see is what you get, you're as uniformed and naive as they come, just like Ross Perot was.

News suppression is also propaganda, regardless of who's doing it. Lastly, because I'm certain you wouldn't know, political operatives are mercenaries, and at times the purse dictates loyalty. The only question about Benghazi is whether it is a Nixon moment, or did the tracks get covered and tapes erased. On that point, Obama is not Clinton. Welcome to the real world of politics.

There lies the problem: Glenn Beck, whom I didn't care for, was not Foxnews, and the network cannot be painted on one person. There are hard news, such as the following that came out today and is not being covered by anyone because it is a monumental headache for Obama.

If it happened under Bush I would want to know as well.

Can be seen as shameless advertising but it answers your questions, economy included.

I consulted for the CPC (Corporation for Public Broadcasting) close to 20 years ago, and not much has changed. Let's just say that I know who's in charge. As far as my tax money supporting public broadcasting, it is a complete waste of resources.

Now there are news and opinion shows on Foxnews, MSNBC, etc., and although opinion shows do advance their respective agendas, the news side is pretty much solid, except when they choose to skip coverage because it's not convenient to their side. But to claim that fabrication takes place only shows the ignorance that abounds, although at times video clips are edited in funny ways, if you know what I mean.

What is sad is that journalism as defined by the dictionary is hard to find to the detriment of the public. I used to work with the art director of the Washington Post in the 90s and once he asked me if I knew how journalists could afford expensive suits. Then he proceeded to highlight how many of them are in bed with politicians so stories can be fed as needed.

I didn't say that fascism was more open than socialism, and used communism as the comparison. But since that's how you interpreted it, you didn't read it correctly.

One last point: I am independent and do not subscribe to any organization blindly, but the list you provided (Foxnews, Tea party, etc.) has never proposed the silencing or censorship of MSNBC. There lies a major difference.

Lived under fascism as well, but fascism doesn't need third party propaganda, just like communism. There are key differences, and I understand how the less informed that never had to carry a gun to school at the age of 14, or wonder whether his parents would be jailed by the time he got home, would be misguided and completely misinformed.

It's probably there, somewhere, but can't find total number of apps. But there's another interesting chart titled "Average Application for Permit to Drill (APD) Approval Timeframes: FY2005 - FY2011," and implying that the delay is the fault of operators, although it may be added regulation. The cream bar on the chart is labeled as "Average number of days after initial submission that industry takes to resolve any deficiencies in an APD."

We can look at a variety of stats and draw plenty of conclusions, but the following chart shows the "Number of Drilling Permits Approved by Fiscal Year on Federal Lands."

As the election nears and Obama loses support, you have become more bullish and now the "oversold" MACD replaces the end of day "stick save" by Wall Street manipulators. Hmm.. Never interpreted MACD that way, but there's always a first time. Meanwhile RSI was 50, or neutral, and smack between overbought and oversold.

IMHO the market may drop big time mostly due to a perception of Romney winning, leading to a stronger dollar.
