  • How I Made Over 900% On Natural Gas, And How You Can Do It [View article]
    Chaz --

Really amazing analysis of the current situation.

Isn't it completely insane that drillers are literally burning natural gas instead of using it or storing it? Natural gas is so cheap that it isn't even profitable for them to store it.
But they shouldn't be burning off valuable and extremely vital resources. Natural gas is not renewable!

It has become much cheaper to produce, but we may have reached the "peak" in cheap natural gas. Now that it's all factored in, the prices can start to rise.

  • How I Made Over 900% On Natural Gas, And How You Can Do It [View article]
Ruby -- Thanks so much for the updated chart!

The one I posted was just easier to read and understand, but your chart helps show my point even more - Inventories seem to be going down, which leads to lower supply and, in turn, higher prices.

Let's see if the trend continues. I think it will.

  • Using DuPont Analysis: Is Amazon Really That Great? [View article]
    Very good analysis Jim!
So good to see someone actually using the DuPont method for once.

See if you can have the DuPont formula inserted somewhere in there too, to make it easier to understand all the different ratios.

  • Through Monday’s close, the S&P 500 has gone 27 trading days without a 1% or more decline, its longest streak in more than a year. While one might think we're overdue for a big down day, "from a longer term perspective, there is plenty of precedent for a much longer streak to occur,” Bespoke says, as longer streaks were more commonplace during the 1980s, ’90s and 2000s.  [View news story]
    Will today be the day?

  • The Price Is Wrong For Priceline [View article]
You make good points, but keep in mind that forward earnings are very dangerous to rely on if a slowdown is ahead. If forward earnings are based on overly optimistic expectations, they could set up to disappoint.

  • Microsoft's (MSFT) 2007 investment in Facebook, which many felt was an attempt to buy ad revenue by agreeing to an inflated valuation, may turn out to be one of Steve Ballmer's smartest moves. Should Facebook receive a $100B IPO valuation, Microsoft's $240M investment could be worth around $1.5B (exact figure depends on dilution). Meanwhile, Facebook has plenty of ad space for Microsoft to sell.  (earlier)  [View news story]
It may be a great investment, but the $1.5B value of investment gains still doesn't make up for Microsoft's $100B+ loss in market share since 2000.

  • Get Ready To Be Disappointed With Apple [View article]
A long position would be taken as a hedge for either my bearish bet or my other short positions.
AAPL could be a long candidate if you short a more speculative company. I would also consider certain AAPL call options as a hedge if I was shorting it through put options.

  • Get Ready To Be Disappointed With Apple [View article]
AAPL actually moved down and sideways for 6 months after that article. Certain things I mentioned took place (Jobs' health, growing competition, weight change in index, still poor use of cash).

The market has continued to run up though, and Apple continued to do spectacularly well.
If anything, I'd be more willing to bet against Apple now than a year ago.

  • Oil prices will rise to $146/barrel by 2035 as China, India and the Middle East consume more energy, the U.S. EIA predicts. The agency also forecasts that U.S. production will increase 22% from 2010-2020 to 6.7M bpd, allowing the country to rely less on imports, and that it will become a net exporter of natural gas by 2021.  [View news story]
    Are you kidding?
The best guess the EIA can make is a $40 rise in oil over the next 23 years?
Can't they make a more practical or useful outlook?

If they can make that prediction, here's mine:
The US stock market (Dow) will move at least 2000 points over the next 10 years.

    Very useful.

  • How Kodak Could Have Avoided Bankruptcy [View article]
This year it was too late to attempt to shift strategies to match the trends. The only feasible option that could have saved the company's value was to sell it.

Your strategy of getting with the times is a good one, but it only would have worked if Kodak used it 20-30 years ago.
