  • What Happened to Silver? [View article]
Selling out of the money puts on this correction is an excellent strategy. If it does fall further, you can buy it at a discount and start selling out of the money calls.

  • 5 Alternative Investments to Bonds [View article]
The National Council of Real Estate Investment Fiduciaries ((NCREIF)) tracks pricing data for both farmland and timber forestry land. Besides buying the land outright, there are cooperative programs available for investors to pool their resources and operate a larger parcel of land. They are usually sold as partnerships or private shares.

  • Summer Doldrums: A Good Time to Buy Silver [View article]
Intraday volatility in silver has been increasing of late, which may indicate that it will soon break out of its trading range. A decisive move above its resistance level at 20 could trigger panic buying from investors on the sidelines in cash waiting for the typical August-September take down. With the economy cooling though, a take down is still most likely in the short term.

  • Gold / Silver Ratio: Precious Metals Hold Their Value During Economic Traumas [View article]
The gold to silver ratio can be effectively traded for profits. In the past couple of months it has fallen from the high side of 70 to its current level around 64. The ratio probably won't break the 58 level until silver breaks out of its resistance at 20 though.

  • Goldman Agrees to Carry On as Usual [View article]
This was just a show for the public. $550 million seems like a lot to Joe Six Pack. People reading the headlines get some sport to watch. Goldman gets to keep their money from the AIG derivatives transport vehicle, and a guarantee to be protected for a while, and the SEC gets some cash to spend.

You may want to include SLV, since Buffett bought silver in 1998. He doesn't still own it, but he has spoken about the fundamentals numerous times and some believe he wasn't allowed to take 100 million ounces in physical delivery.

  • Double Silver Tops [View article]
Silver could fall to $11 in a month, only to rise to $21 by December. Think it can't happen? Look at a chart of 2007 and 2008. Of course, if silver does fall to $11 even temporarily, you'd likely see a crash in the stock markets.

  • Summer Doldrums: A Good Time to Buy Silver [View article]
There will likely be some great opportunities to buy silver over the summer, however you still have to make it through July, August, and September - three months known to have waterfall type declines in silver. Have some cash ready when it happens.

  • Silver Standard Resources: Uninspiring Stock Price [View article]
SSRI was the silver company to own up until 2008. Yes, they had a loss with asset backed securities at the time, however their ingenious trade of physical silver which was sold near its highs made up for it. It is unfortunate Quartermain has left, but if management performs half as well as he did with their abundant resources then I believe it will eventually shrug off this stagnation and move much higher.

  • Riding the Gold Bull: Interview With John Doody [View article]
I would avoid Yamana, as management has a conflict of interest and has accused of selling its assets to another company for under fair market. In some ways this story is similar to Coeur d'Alene which has fallen from nearly 300 to 17 over the last the past 20 years due to mismanagement.

Call it what you will - conspiracy, manipulation, or maybe just profitable trading. In any case, it is highly profitable to place concentrated trades that move prices. The structure of the short concentration is well documented.
