I think now the prices are just so depressed and the company has come so far that the company just has to be considered at current levels. Too many things are in place on the bull side. Great question. They had some early costs in the beginning of the year which caused earnings misses in the first half 2012. They have also paid for new exploration as well as feasibility studies. What recently sent the stock from 3.00 to 2.50 was their offering of shares back in december. Im not sure why people arent pouring cash in. It could be because big $$ doesnt like some of their addtional holdings and would only want to pay for mt todd. I agree with the other comment that labor costs are also high. However, I think shares are a good pick here, and could be sold around $4.00 a share. I personally think (this is speculation) that the reasoin they havent started producing is they are holding out for the buyout, OR holding out until gold is $2,000 an ounce. Regardless, the current share prices are just not reasonable for the reserves they have.

I am somewhat of an expert on Gold and precious metals. These sales are noteworthy thank you. Many of these insiders acquired shares when the stock was 50% lower or more. A lot of this selling stemmed from avoiding capital gains tax increases. I would not read into it as weakness in the company. In fact, AUY is my top choice for gold stocks in the next two years. Looking at the last three years, AUY has managed stock growth while others have languished. the point and click charts tend to look solely at recent trends in the stock, but the recent trend in the entire sector stemmed from the selloff in precious metals. Just a word of caution for anyone thinking of shorting the name (not that you suggest this). In fact, I think its one of the best names in the space.

SLV is an exchange traded fund that has not real physical assets behind it. Ishares also just raised its fees associated with this ETF. This means that if the price of silver were to remain stagnant, say at $31 for all of 2013...then the SLV would LOSE value due to such fees. In general it will do a decent job of tracking the price of silver, but if you WANT to play a silver etf, then go for PSLV, which is 100% backed by silver.

I did outline the risks associated with them. Nationalization probably wont occur but what does make me slightly on edge is increase in taxes or forced discounted selling to the host nation. overally though, AUY still stacks up the best on this list.
