  • Update: Fifth Third Bancorp's Q3 Earnings - It Just Earned A Downgrade [View article]
Is this a serious comment? It was CLEARLY on track for strong growth and the growth continued up until this summer. Like any analyst you have to change your outlook when conditions change.

It is critically important to note that the 70% was taken from a subset in West Africa. Traditionally, Ebola has ranged from 60%-80%, so the official count so far of 50% is indeed on the lighter side. But we are not officially at 70%. The regional assistant director said that's what he is seeing based on the small subset followed. Its a sample size issue. In reference to a comment above regarding my dismissal of 50% as high, there is no doubt that it is a very serious deadly virus. The motivation for the article is to better educate people about the risk of a pandemic and to discuss market implications. I will pen a follow-up article in a few weeks to update this piece.

Because if the nurse coughed on anyone or sneezed on them they could be sick. Passing to the restroom, passengers next to her etc. The total decontamination MAY be an overreaction but its better safe then sorry. If she coughed up phlegm there could be live virus in the phlegm. I think the sanitization is a good precaution. The purpose of contacting everyone is to have them monitored for symptoms. Remember, they would not be contagious until the onset of symptoms if by chance they were infected. This general occurs 5-12 days after exposure, most between 7-9. As long as 21. in NYS we have some individuals being monitored.

Can you tell me with certainty that it is not related? it is impacting industries. Look at mining. Look at airlines. Look at oil. Look at the ebola stocks in the article. Gold started stabilizing in the last week. Interest rates have dived, which is in reaction to market sentiment which helps mREITs. In the article I state action is in part due to ebola. Not entirely. Do you have evidence that ebola has had no effect?

Not sure how this is relevant to the market or ebola stocks or the disease really. Too much media my friend. Too much television.

it is NOT airborne. Repeat is it is NOT airborne. NOT airborne. The researcher in question studies mutations and has suggested that other forms in the past may have been airborne. The current virus is NOT airborne.

The Ro is again under normal conditions. HIV and HepC infected individuals do have sex with others. The Ro I cite is not specific to health care workers. Further, these are VERY different modes of transmission. Now I just read this article. In both cases of his "scenarios" they virus spreads rapidly. The latter case, it becoming airborne, can be said of ANY virus. It would then spread like measles as shown above. Imagine if HIV did this. Im not calling you a conspiracy theorist. I doubt myself and countless others are plotting to spread ebola. One could try to argue that pirate groups or terrorists are deliberately trying to infect others, but this would not be the disease to do it with. Better off acquiring anthrax or ricin

I like the last sentence there--> incompetence is as lethal as Ebola. There are a lot of questions. While more could of and should have been done, contact tracing has been efficient. Speaking for NYS, we are fully in the event we develop a case. DAILY calls with stakeholders and public health leaders. If universal precautions AND isolation procedures are followed, as well as proper decontamination, there should be minimal to no transmission

Put it this way. The Flu of 1918 took out 100 million people in ~9 months. Ebola has taken out 4500 in nearly the same time frame.
