@nuggenman, The European Commission had just recently assessed that Cyprus will need to sell (not yet sold) about 400 million Euros worth of gold for financing the bailout...they own some 13.9 tonnes out of which, to generate the financing, they need to sell 10.3 tonnes of gold to generate that money. I think that is what the Reuters article is referring to.

@lastleaf, I never tell investors to not take profits if they want to. The goal is to be net positive at the end of the game. That said, I agree with your stance of holding for next 1 year, and I am doing the same as well, but if this jumps through the roof past say, $6.50-$7 too soon, I will start trimming then. One thing is certain - expect wild swings and therefore, do not panic.
A $4 Stock With Upside: MEMC Electronic Materials [View article]
@jargon1 that is unavoidable and cannot be regulated unless there are dire broad market-level circumstances. I think one needs to be patient with stocks like MEMC where the overall growth story is in the long run. Short term market pullbacks are opportunities. I'd not chase MEMC here, but I am not selling my current positions either. Upon dips though, I plan to accumulate...let the short sellers do what they want to do..in the long run, this might not even matter. By the way, interestingly, the Standard & Poors announced MEMC as Focus Stock of the Week yesterday on April 1.
@wapiti, Thanks for the comment. To some extent, this has been a complaint for many companies in the space, not just Apache. Take Chesapeake for instance. That is for activist investors to worry about, in my opinion, but remember that it does not always help.
Looking at the prospects and valuation, my take is that this should be more than a $100 stock in the long term.
Pacific Drilling: A High Potential, Young Offshore Drilling Company [View article]
I actually hold PACD and plan to hold for more than a few years from now. It has got one of the youngest fleet in the ultra deepwater drilling market, a major differentiating factor.
@whitehead1, Good trade and good luck! I took notice that it now expects rental rates increase at a lower pace (4-4.5%) in 2013 compared to 2012 (6-7%). I took profits on my $14 trade, continue to hold my $38 position. I think this continues to go higher in the long run.
My target for S&P500 is 1550 for 2013 and I expect a rough summer considering that we are only 50 points away and that too already in January. I will trade the remaining positions depending on where the market is, but I do believe that till 2015 at least, URI is still in a sweet spot in the business cycle. It is good enough to go to $60 in the long run.
