  • New Gold: A Value Investment Opportunity Offering Considerable Upside [View article]
A rational look at what's happening with gold markets and opportunities trading well below value. The key aspect for many will be whether the current downward pressures on price have bottomed, or have further to go. Regardless this is a good independent analytical piece with a strategic look forward for investors looking to buy in this space. Thanks for writing Caimain.

  • Westpac Is Overvalued By Around 30% Making It A Solid Short Candidate [View article]
A globally unique policy, the committed liquidity facility is prudent planning by the RBA to ensure the viability of the Australian banking sector is maintained, underpinned by the robust regulation of the industry by APRA which is viewed favourably by the international finance sector. It also demonstrates forward strategic planning to ensure that it doesn't have to make up policy or develop solutions on the fly like the Fed during the GFC. Thanks for the link to the article Igor, it adds further dimension to Caiman's detailed analysis of the challenges facing Australian banks.

On the property side, my personal impression is that there has been a recent cooling of price in the Australian market; this is driven by concerns over longer term performance of the resources sector and slowing growth in China, but also partly due to the usual pull back by investors in the lead up to a federal election (new date TBI). Whether the cooling off is enduring or not will remain to be seen, but growth won't be driven anymore by cashed up miners (the workers not the corporate's).

Thanks for writing such a detailed analysis of the sector Caiman; your articles and the subsequent discussion in comment threads are always a pleasure to read, and demonstrate to Seeking Alpha's editors that analysis of issues beyond the borders of the continental United States are appreciated by readers.

  • Alan Abelson Died: Lives On Through A Generation He Defined [View article]
A wonderfully reflective article on Alan Abelson, a pleasure to read and thanks for taking the time to pen James. I particularly liked the section on Jim Rogers and your suggestion to repay acts of kindness forward - the smallest actions can reap the biggest rewards.

  • Analyzing Why BHP Billiton's American Depositary Receipts Trade At Different Prices [View article]
Excellent article Caiman which addresses the questions raised by investors and readers on Seeking Alpha whenever the BHP / BBL comparison is raised. Thanks for the link to the earlier piece on BHP, and it will be interesting to see how the company progresses its' strategy with Klopper's departure.

  • BHP Billiton: A Better Value Proposition Over Vale [View article]
Interesting points you raise 'TDWelander' and you are right, the complexity of these issues are the very reason accountants and financial planners are required to answer these issues in detail. I'm currently traveling overseas and not in a position to follow up in detail, but I will consider these points for future articles. Thank you for your comments.

  • Caterpillar Vs. Cummins: Diesel Driven Dividends [View article]
One of my favorite lines from the movie Wall Street is as follows:

"I don't throw darts at a board. I bet on sure things."

Alternative energy technologies are not yet widely accepted in the USA (they are elsewhere), and even when accepted they are not widely adopted until they present a more cost effective option or alternative. Yes the article talks about historical performance, and this alone is important in selecting stocks for dividend growth investors, and to present this information covers more than the preferred article length that Seeking Alpha editors prefer to publish.

There is quite simply, too much information to cover future revenue streams in detail within the same article, to which I have no doubt both companies are working to develop and implement the alternative energy technologies that you suggest. It is an area I hope to write a follow up piece on once I have finished moving back to Australia.

    Thanks for your comments.

  • Reviewing Chevron's Performance In The Last Part Of 2012 [View article]
Mark, an interesting article. While you may not be able to access Caiman's article on CVX (selected as a Pro article I believe due to the extensive analysis of the issues associated with the Latin American legal cases in motion), you can view the comments thread.

I worked with Caiman on a collaborative piece regarding CVX (see article here: http://seekingalpha.co...) and I can attest to the amount of work that Caiman put into researching the issue in detail. This occurred because I approached him with respect to getting a 'boots on the ground' assessment of the legal issues, due to the complexities associated with these issues when viewed against those countries who abide with the rule of law, and those that don't.

If you look to many of Caiman's other articles on companies operating in Latin American, you will see some recurring themes. Caiman's DCF valuation of CVX also underscores his position regarding the companies suitability as an investment. For me a big component of Chevron's suitability is how they manage the associated political and legal risk.

It will also be interesting to see the potential impact of Chevron's cost blowouts for its LNG project in Australia - initially touted as $20B but reported to likely be as high as $50B.

  • 50% Down In 2012 - Where Will You Find Your Fortune In 2013? [View article]
Interesting observations 'veggivet' and thanks for sharing your position on AAPL. I ran my own portfolio series on 10 stocks during 2012, but I didn't use it as a direct comparison to the Fortune Portfolio, as to be fair to the Fortune magazine stock pickers I was making decisions and changing positions during the year, whereas the Fortune portfolio was essentially a 'set & forget' scenario. The time frames were also 3 months apart. You can read those articles on the Sun Tzu Series by starting with the first one here:
