$PFE Is it just me, or is it curious that some are reporting that Pfizer "narrowed" guidance? Does "raised" guidance sound too positive?

    • Brandon Gibbs: No, "raised" guidance just sounds like an attempt at a Viagra joke. Kind of like a "correction" lasting longer than 4 hours.

    • DAG Investments: lol well, if i get a correction lasting longer than 4 hours, i know exactly who i'll call and it ain't my doctor ... or my broker

    • DAG Investments: seriously though, just wondering what happened to reporting facts without bias. they must know how many will interpret "narrowed guidance".
      10/29/13
    • Brandon Gibbs: wouldn't "narrowed guidance" refer to say a smaller, more accurate range... as opposed to "raised guidance" which refers to higher numbers?
      10/29/13
    • DAG Investments: yes, but if a range is "narrowed" by cutting out the low end, the range is "raised" so it's more accurate to call it such ...
      10/29/13
    • DAG Investments: or just say something neutral like "adjusted" ... the point is everyone knows many only read headlines and will read "narrowed" as "lowered"
      10/29/13
    • DAG Investments: semantics perhaps. just prefer reporting dumbed down for stupid people since there are plenty and we have to play in the same sandbox/market
      10/29/13
    • Brandon Gibbs: yea i tend to mistrust anything neutral
      10/29/13
    • DAG Investments: hmmm, that's interesting ... i tend to mistrust anything that's not neutral. lol i want the facts, not somebody's spin on the facts.
      10/29/13
    • Brandon Gibbs: yea but being the smart ones in the sandbox, we should be able to discern what is fact vs. spin.
      10/29/13
    • Brandon Gibbs: But for someone to remain neutral, to me is an indicator of fear. An indicator that they are unwilling to pay due diligence in making a call
      10/29/13
    • Brandon Gibbs: but when a call is made in either direction, it is much easier for the smart ones in the sandbox to either jump on board or call shananigans
      10/29/13
    • Brandon Gibbs: i hear you though, when spin is the trend, neutrality is a breath of fresh air lol
      10/29/13
    • DAG Investments: i think it depends whether the context is making a call or reporting news. with a call i see neutrality not as fear but as a fair value call
      10/29/13
    • DAG Investments: with reporting news, i see neutrality as the only acceptable approach ... facts are not to be tainted by the biases of the messengers.

    • Grand Nagus Kelly: I think Al Haig started this type of commentary when he said he was being carefully cautious. Let em say "WTF" and talk themselves into it.
      10/29/13
    • DAG Investments: lol Did he really say "carefully cautious"? That's a little redundant and repetitive isn't it? lol
      10/29/13
    • Grand Nagus Kelly: It was something like that. Al Haig was the Yogi Berra of Secretary's of State.
      10/29/13
    • DAG Investments: lol Yes, I remember him. kinda like G Dubya was the Yogi Bera of the Presidency. lol First President ever to quote The Who ...
