Recent Analyst Research on the CDN Market Needs to Be Questioned [View article]
@Wisdom: You say " I have read about CDNetworks problems from other sources, I would have appreciated a more precise defense."
A more precise defense? You kidding? The point I was making was that CDNetworks has not made any major mistakes with their CDN offering. Internap on the other hand has had many public facing issues, not to mention writing down $150M of the VitalStream acquisition. It's all public info. I don't need to "defend" CDNetworks, the facts are the facts. Point me to something that shows CDNetworks has made mistakes as large as Internap.
You also say, "It is difficult to analyze CDNs when you do not want to upset advertisers of 'streaming media magazine."
Again, make no sense. Internap is one of the largest advertisers with Streaming Media magazine, so if I was worried about "upsetting" them, I would not have written this post saying that CDNetworks should be listed above Internap.

@CatsJam: This article is from my blog, where no ticker symbols are included. SeekingAlpha takes some of my posts and includes their own info with it on their website. If a ticker symbol appears, it's been added by SeekingAlpha and you'd have to contact them about it.
What Will It Take for Microsoft and Adobe to Agree on an HD Web Video Standard? [View article]
H.264 is a standard for video compression, 720p stands for the horizontal scan lines of display resolution. You're comparing two completely different things, which is exactly the point of my article.

The only reason I have so many boxes is that I do reviews of many of these devices and hence need to have them on hand to see their latest video offerings. I don't expect an average user to have as many boxes as I have and if I was not in the industry, I would only have a TiVo (used as my cable box with cable cards) and an XBOX 360.
Sun CEO's Claim That JavaFX Is the Fastest Growing RIA Platform: Completely Untrue [View article]
Yeah what a surprise, more crazy On2 investors who want to take over the comments section proclaiming how good On2 is. You've only posted two comments ever on SeekingAlpha.com and both of them are on this post, saying how good On2 is.
Great argument you have there for H.264, which you say can't be open source since it has license fees. Since when does a license fee determine if something is open source? Clueless.
I have no stake in any of these companies, don't trade stocks and post under my own name. Can't say the same thing for you Mr. "JavaFxRox".
These On2 investors who want to bash anything that does not say "On2 is great" are just weak.

I'm talking video apps. Keep in mind that Jonathan's post was not talking about just Java. He was also talking about JavaFX, video, audio etc... he included all of that in one post, all wrapped together.
Not my fault if you want to complain that they should all be looked at individually. Clearly he is not looking at them that way. He is the one who used words like "open source", "Java", "JavaFX", "video", "audio" all in one post, tying it all together.

My response to some questions/comments:
- I don't know of any third party company that validated numbers between Adobe, Microsoft and Sun.
- I understand the difference between Java and JavaFX. I cover video specifically and that's what I care about. In Jonathan's blog post he specifically used the word "video". Show me one video application that has been adopted on the market using JavaFX.
- Microsoft, Adobe and hundreds of other vendors buy ads on StreamingMedia.com and in our magazine. But this post comes from my personal blog at BusinessOfVideo.com of which both Adobe and Microsoft are not sponsors. And if they were, that would be clearly displayed on the blog under "sponsors" for anyone to see.
- In reference to JavaFX "User 362632" says that "being opensource it has a better chance to be way more robust than any of the competition." How can you call JavaFX opensource when it does not support any open source video codecs?
Sun Launches JavaFX to Try and Compete with Flash & Silverlight [View article]
Sling and Hulu don't use progressive download, they are streaming. And Netflix streams to the XBOX, it does not download. And Silverlight is not a set top box or a portable player, it is a software platform. You refer to Vudu as a service provider that uses P2P, except that they don't. You are comparing a whole bunch of different things together that make no sense.
My guess, you work for mytvpal.com since you mention them six times which is a crappy solution that no one uses, that does not even support Mac players and has a company website that has home foreclosure ads on their pages.
Netflix's New Digital Distribution Will Improve the Bottom Line [View article]
The cost to Netflix to license and encode all of this content and pay Limelight Networks to store and stream all of these video is not cheap, let alone the development costs for the player and interface. Today, it is not improving their bottom line, far from it. They are spending a lot of money to make this happen and will have to continue to sink a great deal of money into this for some time to come. Not a bad thing, as they are planning for the future, but it is not improving their bottom line anytime soon.
This is the main reason why to date, Netflix will not break out any of their costs around their digital distribution offering.

Again, Apple and iPods have nothing to do with Netflix. iPods don't stream content, it plays content that has been downloaded. And all Netflix has said is that their streaming service for the PC will support Mac's at some point. Nothing Netflix offers has to do with downloads to an iPod.

What does "video downloads" have to do with Netflix? Netflix's watch now service, XBOX 360 service and Roku service are all streaming based services, with no downloads. It's a completely different service offering than Apple's.
