Now don’t get me wrong…I like a rising tide in stocks better than anybody. A decimated 401k recovers, folks smile again, the flowers bloom and birds sing…let the sunshine in.

The abyss from which we are emerging has been combed over ad nauseum. If a reminder is needed…

Yesterday, I went into my backyard to grill some tasty treats, as it was a pleasant evening and...well...grilled food be good. As I cleaned out my Weber to start my fire, I went into my shed to pick up some fuel for the fire - and lo and behold nothing was there. My coal was stolen.

I figured, why steal coal now? I mean, coal shares are in the midst of a nasty correction. Why in the world would anyone want to try to catch that falling knife?  In such a situation most people would have just went out and bought more charcoal, but not me. I had a hunger - but not for burgers.

My friends, we are in tumultuous times. Markets are seemingly in freefall. During these times, the need for information surges. Blog viewership…through the roof. Google (GOOG) queries on all things financial…popping. Barrons…a bear on the front page. For some…this is an indication of a bounce. For others, this is an indication of a bounce…with a subsequent decline to new lows and the need to act in a capital preserving manner in terms of constructing a portfolio.

I remember a time where this reader was very passionate about his GM (GM) vehicle. It was a 1969 Camaro…what a perfect car. The look, the part interchangeability, the performance. Boy what a vehicle, and man was I passionate about it.

Hear that GM? Where is the passion? The idea of connectivity to the vehicle? This company is in serious trouble. We are talking about the great American Icon that is close to losing its U.S market share leadership to a more nimble Toyota (TM). GM shares closed at $13.19 on Tuesday, June 24. Excluding dividend and split adjustments, GM shares are trading at an all time nominal low. With adjustments, prices like this have not seen since the early 90s recession.
