One must always be careful about these kinds of companies. Live by word of mouse, die by word of mouse.

Compare the sales of Win8, with all that advertising, against the sales of iOS devices, where there was relatively little advertising. This was the competitive marker Microsoft set out for itself. You call that #winning?

What the 40m figure tells me is that Microsoft is maintaining, within its market. And those sales are sort of like early voting -- you booked them already in the run-up. It's now Election Day. What are you doing for me?

Exactly. You have to measure claims against the background reality. People aren't rushing to upgrade if barely 4% do so in the first month of a release.

It's too soon to call it a winner yet. I think that's the key point

The concern is most consumers won't think about it.

I expect BXS to start following the PB model of buying small banks, and their new CEO has a proven track record in that area.

    Both are good companies.

I think the departure comes down to ambition. Rollins will be CEO and have his own board at BXS. He was COO at Prosperity

Exactly. And that's the opportunity for a company like Apple to bring ina premium product with a business model that lets you do just that -- the savings pay for the product.

I'd like things to get better too. But they've been going downhill for a generation, and the boat takes time (as well as technology) to turn around.

When labor is in shortage, wages will go up.We're still a few years away from that.

I suspect Microsoft is replacing Apple, which replaced Netflix, as the sweet spot for debates here at SA. I base that on the traffic and discussion here so far.

That's an interesting point. Maybe the FB lock-up wasn't the real overhang to worry about.

That's right. Everything that doesn't agree with your ideology is a lie. Yes, recovery.org does a fine job of doing what it does, and the facts are just the facts. Sorry.

ESPN is the leader, but they are now facing competitors who are willing to pay outrageous prices for a seat at the table, raising costs beyond what can be recouped.

I was commenting on her responsibility for Autonomy. She was on the board when that deal went down. She approved it as part of the board.

  • Verifone Fights The Square Hangover [View article]
When you go with Square you take their equipment. That is what makes them a competitor to Verifone. I don't think we disagree as much as you think we do. That's why I pointed out, at the end of the story, that Verifone's problem is business models and it doesn't have control over that.
