Age 80, retired transportation planner, afterward owner/operator of a small general used book store in Lancaster, PA. Had owned mutual funds but never had any real exposure to equities until October 2008 -- at which point I became aware of the fact that it was unlikely that I would not be able to mess up our finances any worse than the pros had done. Six years later, I'm certain I've made just about every rookie mistake in the book, but our investments are still in the black and I think I'm becoming more prone to judgement than enthusiasm. (I think I've finally overcome the fatal attraction for microcap biotechnical firms...)
Alex Lega is Head of Investment at an independent financial company
Mr Lega was formerly working for a large Investment Bank in London where he was advising institutional clients on complex structured products strategies and various investment opportunities. In 2006, realizing how Europe would reach a dead end sooner rather than later, Mr Lega decided to bet on Asia and left the UK for the "tiny" (yet vibrant) city state of Singapore. Over the past 5 years, he has developed a strong network in Asia allowing him to gain in-depth knowledge of the culture and economics of the region.
Since, Mr Lega has been known for pragmatic and accurate warnings on the UK and the US economies, his bullishness on Asia and for calling the rise of Commodity prices, Asian Equities, Real Estate and Intellectual Property.
Started studying charts 10 years ago during my "free" time (remember that?) - had the "aha" moment... - and keep learning from it as time passes. Social Security and 401K's aren't gonna cut it probably and nothing's getting cheaper. There is a flow in any market - we are here to monitor the flow - the roller coaster - and it's fun after you learn not to get burned. BTW - you will get burned once in a while...
