I really that the point you made was legit - Buffett could be selling to buy other stocks, rather than selling to get out of the market. There's been some criticism on other websites (i.e. www.thestreet.com/stor...) about Buffett selling American while preaching for everybody to buy American, so this is a great explanation for it. Well written.

Ya really good point. I remember listening to a podcast a little while ago saying that the cause of this is the government TARP and bailout money, specifically because now that firms have this extra money they were compelled to pay their executive to retain them only because all their competitors had the money to retain their execs as well. Vicious cycle processed, and all the money got mis-allocated to the wrong people..instead of using it for productive things. Just another point to consider..

I actually read that article as well and thought something was a little sketchy about it. After all, Buffett's investments in preferred shares, considering the companies remain intact, are very comparable to investing in cash since the return is at a guaranteed rate.

either way, it's great to see this website still has some logical authors.
