Definition Of "Device" Continues To Expand: Automobiles Increasingly Vulnerable To Viruses
Published Earlier on SeekingAlpha under the Symbols Below Wednesday, August 22, 11:06 AM An academic report concludes that as automobiles become increasingly computerized, they also become more vulnerable to viruses. Just like any machine that transmits bits of information wirelessly, hackers in theory could intercept and redirect packets of information from on-board computer systems. Look for cybersecurity firms such as CHKP, SYNC, FIRE, Intel's McAfee unit, and private firm Escrypt to create more products to address the growing issue. (full report .pdf)
Wave Systems Enters Global Distribution Deal With Lenovo
Wave Systems (Nasdaq: WAVX) today announced a global distribution deal with Lenovo, the world's 2nd largest PC manufacturer. This is an important step forward for Wave in expanding its PC OEM channels beyond its largest customer, DELL.
Release is here: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/wave-signs-global-distribution-agreement-122900926.html
The agreement underscores growing interest in trusted computing solutions by enterprises & OEMs. Samsung's entry into the trusted computing space earlier this year is another sigh, and they hired Wave to help them with that effort back in November 2011. Samsung has decided to produce trusted platform module (TPM) security chips, which are the building block of trusted computing. In May, following its development, Samsung licensed Wave's client software to manage TPMs.
As for the Lenovo deal, their news release quotation says it best: "Gaining direct access to Wave's endpoint security solutions means Lenovo customers now have a one-stop-shop to purchase PCs bundled with Wave's robust security and management solutions," said Wes Williams, Director of Ecosystems & Monetization Marketing Operations, Lenovo. "This agreement greatly simplifies the buying process for our customers who use Wave solutions to activate and manage SEDs, along with TPMs for persistent and unique identity, as well as the early detection of Advanced Persistent Threats."
Micron's comment from the release: "Preventing data breaches is priority number one for today's enterprise organizations," said Justin Sykes, General Manager of client SSDs at Micron. "We're pleased to see Wave partner with a key customer of ours to bring greater accessibility to flash-based SEDs, which offer the single best combination of security and performance. With Wave, Lenovo customers can deploy and manage an enterprise-wide installation of Micron's C400 SEDs in a fraction of the time it would take to deploy software encryption."
