    As a first step eliminate the 16th Amendment. It's FUBAR now and forever.

    There is no good tax but user fees and a VAT would seem more useful even as wise guys will find a black market workaround.

    You're all having fun expressing your views. That's healthy.

    The bottom line for me is that little has changed for the good as far as the economy and government policies.

    Both parties choose spending over sound fiscal policies. That's the issue.

    Make of it what you will but I'm still with Peter Finch's rant which could be transferred today. It's just people live in their own era with little regard for history. Oh that? It's not taught any longer.

    Higher living standards are the result of women in the workforce doubling or adding to household income--not inflation adjusted. Healthcare isn't better in my opinion except in isolated areas and doctors are in short supply. Better toys are no different now then they were from times previous to 1976. Better housing? McMansions and a housing crisis. What place on earth are you living?
