  • Employment Report Disaster [View article]
The unemployment numbers are far worse than what is reported by the govt. agencies. Many folks are out of work and can't find jobs.

  • iShares Austria: Exposure to Rapid Growth in Post-Communist Europe [View article]
I agree Austria has many advantages over other countries but caution is needed now. In many of these East European countries inflation is creeping high and too many investors are pouring money into these small countries.

Chinese stocks are still overvalued.I think they will drop dramatically even before the games.

I agree with your first item there.Today "Quants" (for Quantitative Analyst) are hot in the markets. These are folks who have financial engineering or Ph.D. degrees and make all the models that are in use today at most financial institutions.Oh by the way those Quants make a lot of moolah too...

Bradford and Bingley seems to be stupid even when it comes to share offering. Maybe they are another Northern Rock in waiting...

  • Nusbaum: Portfolio for a New Era [View article]
I agree with User 197614.If one does not catch a sector at the right time they may end up holding the stock while it languishes. This is especially true with mid and small caps which don't pay any dividends or pay very little.

Bluesmoke - you are so correct. It takes a lot of work just to stay in the same place due to inflation.Forget about getting ahead.

  • Canadian National Railway: Choo-choo, Ka-ching! [View article]
CNI is larger than Canadian Pacific - CP.However in recent years CP stock is doing much better than CNI. CNI's CEO Hunter Harrison is running this operation well but the stock price does not reflect that.Hopefully like the article mentions the Prince Rupert terminal will kickoff a great run of the stock.

  • Keeping Score of Global Stock Markets' Returns and Valuations [View article]
Bill - I agree with your comment.I don't think that the US and British economies are tied to one another like everyone thinks. In the housing market, they have stricter lending standards than the US and even today house prices are not crashing as they are here.

  • What's the Best Way to Capture a Country? [View article]
I also prefer individual stocks, if available, over ETFs. Many of these country specific ETFs are heavily weighted towards one sector or another. For eg. - EWO the Austrian ETF is heavy in financials. In some country ETFs just one sector make up nearly 50% of the portfolio which is not good.

Thanks Roger for the neat article.
