Will $YHOO close up or down today, the first trading day after $YHOO shareholders digest the Tumblr acquisition? What's your prediction?

    • Charles Margolis: I think could go up, Yahoo only has $36M debt and $3B cash, $250M ish net income quarterly.. they can afford Tumblr and it can increase rev.

    • Charles Margolis: Still wish it was a Twitter acquisition tho

    • David Jackson: I wonder how many value investors who were in $YHOO for the sum-of-the-parts (Alibaba) will now get out.

    • David Jackson: And on the other hand, Marissa Mayer is now attracting growth investors to $YHOO's stock.

    • Chris DeMuth Jr.: David -- In order: "down". At least one. A fine six months, though. They can have it and I hope that they do well, taking it from here. -C

    • David Jackson: Hi Chris, do you mean "down today, but up over the next 6 months"?
      5/20/13
    • Chris DeMuth Jr.: Sorry, unclear: YHOO down today (no idea, of course, just answering for fun). At least one value investor getting out. Been a good 6-9 mos

    • Chris DeMuth Jr.: @ $15, $YHOO was a value investment with real catalysts for people who count the money. People who predict the future can take it from here

    • David Jackson: Aaahh, now I understand. I know at least one value investor in it for sum of the parts due to Alibaba. Bet he's thinking of getting out.
      5/20/13
    • David Jackson: ... or got out already today.
      5/20/13
    • Charles Margolis: The Alipay debacle cemented my disinterest in Yahoo being involved with Alibaba -- not informing major owners of transactions is underhanded

    • Charles Margolis: Complete control of Tumblr, by someone who knows what she is doing, makes sense. I wouldn't call today's uptick in YHOO volume significant.
      5/20/13
    • Charles Margolis: I'd think value investors would see the potential in a site that garners 75M posts a day, tho.
      5/20/13
    • Charles Margolis: I'm seeing this: http://bit.ly/10Iwagk "Users Stay Longer on Tumblr Than Facebook" that is just per visit, people visit FB more per day.
      5/20/13
    • David Jackson: Charles - arguably Tumblr is more than anything a photo sharing site (you see that on most Tumblogs). Monetization potential for that?

    • Chris DeMuth Jr.: Oh, well. It is time that I announcing my retirement from one day stock move predictions after a short but illustrious career record of 0-1.

    • David Jackson: Think it just proves that predicting short term movements is a losers game. Rather like trading FX...
      5/22/13
    • Charles Margolis: This is important: http://bit.ly/13L0wUI it would be interesting if Karp can rejuvenate Yahoo, tho MM has been doing well
      5/22/13
    • Charles Margolis: Secondly, there are complaints Tumblr tried to charge $150k for banner space on its fashion page... so monetization is possible...
