  • Daily State Of The Markets: Do The Bulls Have The Edge Here? [View article]
I hear ya, for sure. However, the GDP print was completely "expected" by just about everyone on the street (blame it on the weather!) and most see Q2 GDP with a 4-handle. So, the real risk will come if GDP disappoints in July!

This market sure "feels" like it wants to put in a "blow off" top with lots of divergences - classic.

Agree on your points. Personally, I'd like to see some "fear" restored to this market. The longer we stay elevated (the chorus from U2's "Elevation" is playing in my head right now!) the worse the ultimate decline will be! But the questions are "when" and "why"... so we keep playing the game. Have a great weekend.

Good news indeed - but such is life in this algo-driven world!

I too am concerned about the lack of a pullback and the "verticality" of the SPX. However, I've been around this game since 1980 and can say with certainty that bulls often run farther than ANYONE can imagine.

Color me cautiously optimistic with an eye on the exits and a slightly hedged position...

Thanks for the comments! As I've noted, history shows that the beaten-down small/micro-caps don't need to return to new highs in order for SPX/DJIA to advance smartly. They just can't continue to go down.

So, with the chart of the NAZ looking much improved and the IWC NOT going down anymore, bulls may have the edge for near-term.

Well, until the next "crisis" of course!

Thanks for adding color to the current situation - I hadn't thought about the world cup aspect.

Note that the ECB action is pretty much priced in - imo of course!

Although Ms. Market does like to do whatever she can to frustrate the masses and stocks also like to climb a wall of worry, we must recognize that this bull is aging. So, we are definitely on alert, but continuing to play the game.

Thanks for the kind words... The prior mo-mo meltdowns since 1982 where the market didn't tank occurred in 1983, 1997, 2004, and 2004. There is a brief description of each in the article: http://bit.ly/S3BnSZ

We took our first trip to Moab in March - talk about AMAZING! Haven't tried the jeep tours but based on our hikes and biking adventures, I know EXACTLY of which you and "Mrs. Bear" speak - put a sign up or something!

Where did you stay in Moab? We found a place about 15 miles from town called the Red Cliffs Lodge, which was great.

Can't wait to go back. But I will definitely avoid the cliffs!

  • Daily State Of The Markets: Could A 'Baby Bear' Be Around The Corner? [View article]
Bulls and bears are clearly in the eyes of the beholder.

I see "secular cycles" as those lasting a decade or more. 1965-1982, 1982-2000, 2000-2009 are my takes. Then within those "secular" cycles, there are many "cyclical" cycles. Just my view.

And you are correct, there have been VERY few real financial panics over the last 100+ years.

LOL - nicely done! Yea, we'll either see a "self-fulfilling" 10+% correction... or not :-)
