BTW, for those just joining us, the banks are LONG silver and gold right now, and have been since December, so they must have called off the "conspiracy", but it just doesn't seem to matter! It turns out that when people do not have money, they sell their precious metals for....FOOD! Imagine that! India, after hoarding silver and gold in the Winter, are now exporting these metals like mad. Not to be outdone, the PM cartel is now selling their book by claiming....

news.goldseek.com/GATA...

that "concentrated shorts" are suppressing the price of these metals. It just gets funnier all the time.]]>
Silver: Gold's Poodle? http://seekingalpha.com/article/128222-silver-gold-s-poodle?source=feed#comment-443543 443543 Sat, 28 Mar 2009 15:28:10 -0400
Nice Article, stands on its own, concise without the usual inanities surrounding buying Gold regardless of price.

Total agreement on Silver's future which is already being increasingly used in the Food storage area, the appliance sector and other areas like Laptop Batteries and health.

I did not watch your video, did not have to. Silver shortages will show up much faster simply because so much production has been taken off the market already in the form of the closure of marginal mines in the entire Base Metal sector.

Do you recommend exposure strictly via physical or do other investments come into play, such as SLV or the Miners themselves?]]>

A portable stash of silver and gold is good protection for anything coming in the next decade. Even the most optimistic concede these years will not be easy.

On the flip side of the coin, currency instability/volatility has been driving demand for pms as well. That's why I think it should be in every portfolio. Currency instability hedge + inflation protection.]]>

Mr. Morgan's website lists him as being a World recognized Author, Speaker and Teacher.

With these credentials, I would think that he would have greater access to the "Skinny" on Silver than we do. Besides he wrote a book on it.]]>

Consider a normal short position, borrowing shares to sell into the open market, thereby increasing the number of shares outstanding.

In an ETF like GLD or SLV which purportedly holds the underlying asset, how would shorting them work? Would you have to have the physical equivalent of the units shorted to sell on the open market? Would they be actually sold on the market? How would one be able to cover the shorts?

Would a Paper equivalent like a nearby futures contact be accepted?

I do not know but do not want to find myself on the wrong end of the stick by investing in either.

Mr. Morgan, maybe you could use your influence to answer the above questions in some future article or steer us to a location where the questions could be answered?

Thank you in advance.

Perhaps, but if the silver stays in the same vault, and all that happens is that the name of the owner changes, then in effect, SLV is sharing costs for storage with governments or others. Thinking of GLD and SLV as private subsidies for government-owned precious metals takes a great deal of the glamor out of the ETFs (their value isn't changed, but the cheerleading component sure declines).]]>

I have also recommended CEF repeatedly. They may be viewed primarily as a Silver play but CEF also has about 1 million oz. of gold.(last that I read).

One is:contracts for future delivery of silver. These could well exceed by a multiple the actual amount of bullion that *could possibly* be delivered. In other words, certain players are massively short of silver.
(this would be highly bullish for silver, if not for the players)

The other kind is: Custodians' certificates that they are actually holding the silver in inventory, numbered and allocated to the real owners.

I must presume (barring outright fraud) that the 600 ton "inventory" movement in SLV consisted simply of the acquiring of such certificates.]]>
