Thank you for mentioning Fannie and Freddie. This is funny government accounting and may be an unconstitutional taking of private property.

Sounds like something Watt, the board of directors, or the CEO could do. One of them needs to show leadership.

The excessive leverage and ridiculously low capital levels are a problem for the system according to Fannie's CEO.

"BY Dow Jones & Company, Inc.
    — 11:00 AM ET 02/20/2015
11:00 EST – Fannie Mae ( FNMA ) CEO Timothy J. Mayopoulos says during the 4Q conference call that the mortgage financier’s dwindling capital reserves, which are being wound down under a government agreement, may increase the chances of a need for another taxpayer infusion. "

In the long-run, even an accountant can't screw up that equation. In the long-run, the business doesn't lie. The results tell the story.

  • Home Building Stocks: Are They Worth It? [View article]
"Attributed in part to risky mortgages being distributed by Fannie Mae (OTCQB:FNMA) and Freddie Mac (OTCQB:FMCC), the federal government had to step in."

No offense, but this is incorrect. It's a viewpoint held by about 10% of experts and those people work for right wing think tanks.

Agree. Many people believe that this issue will end up in the highest court, due to the importance of the issue. The faster it gets there, the better. I feel that the SCOTUS might actually stand up to Treasury on this.

Investors Unite is a coalition of shareholders that are working on a political solution to GSE reform.

The restructuring should be simple. There is no reason for the government to take 100% and try to shut down two profitable companies.

It is disappointing that the judges have no interest in correcting the illegal actions of Treasury. Many cases are ongoing. Appeals are in process.

Is it more liquid than many of the other Freddie preferreds, but also sells at a premium. There is a list of preferred tickers on the Freddie investor relations website. When I buy preferred, I buy the cheapest available based on redemption value. Thanks.

If you think about it though, Mel Watt has taken the massive ship called "housing finance" and charted a completely new course over the past few months. He has not been there very long. There was a lot of damage done by the person there before. I'm willing to give him a little more time to prove himself.

He's trying to keep his job a few more months. As soon as he goes against Treasury, the Administration will kick him to the curb. More evidence that FHFA is not independent.

She might be the brightest Congressperson on the committee. You might remember that she was the one that raised a fuss when they stopped the dividends to the junior preferred.
One of the congressman today asked Director Watt if he counsels individuals on their creditworthiness. I am not sure how he could ask the question even if he is talking about the GSEs themselves. It shows a clear lack of understanding of how the system works.
