  • Real Estate Trends To Watch In 2015 [View article]
Don't see any mention of the dramatic oil price collapse. Surely that must have some impact, especially in energy states like Texas and North Dakota.

  • Should We Allow Kyle Bass To Bet On The Economic Implosion Of Japan? [View article]
Maybe I misunderstand Hayman's position re JGBs, but it appears to me to be far out-of-the-money private options with non-Japanese counterparties, presumably prop desks of large banks -- essentially "smart money" players at the poker table trying to pick each other's pocket, i.e., a derivative position that could just as easily be based on the color of the moon, instead of JGB interest rates. Just don't see how it could in any way have any effect on the Japanese debt situation -- that's just happens to be the benchmark for their private bets (and, given the situation in Japan, I rather doubt Kyle will end up being the patsy at the poker table).

  • Jeremy Grantham Believes In High Oil Prices: Thinks Oil Sands Producers Are Bad Investments [View article]
Not to disparage the oil sands industry, but having experienced ups & downs in the oil & gas business for 38 years, and having extensively studied its long-term history of ups & downs, there's certainly something to be said for sticking with efficient low-cost producers.

  • Why Financial Repression Will Fail [View article]
I agree with granger ... one of the best articles I've ever read on SA. Reinforces the little known or understood fact that the Fed was created, and continues to operate, to benefit the big banks & spendthrift politicians at the expense of the populace, exactly the opposite of how it was originally sold to the public in the early 1900s.

  • Sizing Up Chesapeake's Permian Basin Asset Sale [View article]
    good article, but:

    1. oil & gas activities originated in the Permian Basin with spudding of the Santa Rita #1 in 1921 -- not "early 1930s"

    2. Chevron is a VERY active operator in the Permian Basin, having acquired Texaco and Texaco earlier having acquired Gulf Oil -- both of whom were significant long-time players in the basin.
