    Jimmy46: The answer to your "me to" question is both yes and no. Yes Restanza is another antibiotic, which according the the news out yesterday is not as effective as the company would hope. It was still found to be reasonably effective in curing mild to moderate cases of community acquired pneumonia.

    The non-"me to" aspect of it is that it is effective against strains of bacteria that are already resistance to penecillin, macrolide, and fluoroquinolone.

    Essentially as antibiotics are used more and more over long periods of time, strains of "hardier" bacteria emerge (mutations)that have developed resistance to the antibiotics. For this reason there is a need to continually produce/invent new atibiotics to which the bacteria are not yet resistant.

    Pneumonia is a very common disease. It can be a killer. We need to have drugs that can effectively combat the bacteria that cause it. In that sense, Restanza is not a "me to" drug.
