    rip2451,

You are correct that buybacks improve financial ratios, but I'm also correct that buybacks increase value to shareholders. They reduce dilution - buybacks have the opposite effect of new stock offerings which increase shares outstanding and dilution.

    Good point billinsd,

Perhaps alrightalready will make some short-term money, but those with their eyes on the long-term should do well - and they don't have to waste much money in broker commissions to do so.

  • "If capitalism is America’s biggest problem, why save it?" asks MarketWatch's Paul Farrell. "Wall Street, Corporate America, Big Oil and the entire economy been transformed into a bizarre circus Adam Smith would never recognize. Capitalism is now an out-of-control Frankenstein monster that changed everything." Not that Farrell provides any alternatives. [View news story]

Excellent point. The reason Capitalism should be saved is because it's better than all of the other alternatives.

Actually, capitalism isn't America's biggest problem - the ever growing national debt is the largest problem - just how high can it go?

  • General Electric: Protecting Your Investment In The Short Term [View article]
    snideybowl,

The amount of risk when using options depends on the strategy that you're using. Covered calls are typically considered a conservative strategy, so I wouldn't consider that gambling - hedging is probably a better word. However, the outright buying of calls or puts could be considered gambling.

I'm not implying a drop down to crisis levels. I said that I would expect a minor 5% pullback - more of a technical consolidation.

  • Aflac: Never Ducking On Dividends [View article]
Yes, Japan does pose a risk for Aflac - but every business has its risks. The high exposure to Japan is probably contributing to Aflac's undervaluation. You have to go with your gut and decide for yourself if you are willing to own that risk or invest in something with less risk. Of course, the stocks with less risk may not be undervalued.
