I currently manage an investment portfolio for a corporation based in Oklahoma City. I am also a founding partner of Paratus Capital LLC. Paratus is an investment partnership that consists of myself and two other financial professionals. I have undergraduate degrees in finance/economics and I also have a MBA. I am currently a level 3 CFA candidate. My investment philosophy/style is value driven. I follow the investment holdings of Joel Greenblatt, Bruce Berkowitz, Michael Price and other money managers with similar investing styles. More specifically, I like that they look where others are not looking. The market will be less efficient the less known or in style something is. I like to use boring, under followed or undiscovered companies as a starting point for some of my research because their returns aren't always so boring. That isn't to say that I don't like companies that are taking advantage of growth opportunities, I just make it my number 1 priority not to overpay for that growth/expectation. I favor companies that have generated a historically high ROIC. I focus exclusively on the cash component of earnings. I spend significant amounts of time researching potential special situations as well. I believe that with investments, and most things in life, success happens when preparation and patience meet opportunity. I tend to do more research than I feel as though I actually need to make an investment decision, but I like doing things that way. I do significant amounts of international travel for business and personal reasons. I have international work experience in which I worked for a non-profit in New Zealand that promoted entrepreneurship through hosting/planning different types programs/events.
I graduated from the University of Toronto with a BComm and am now working on developing a partnering business to help get the word out on disruptive investments. I want my research to provide timely and conclusive investment ideas that intend to deliver attractive yields to investors.

I enjoy following and capitalizing on investing opportunities primarily in the tech and healthcare industry. Most of my free time is spent conducting research on small-to-mid cap equities using a combination of fundamental data analysis and technical studies to come to conclusive results. I manage some money that I invest according to the above technique to ripen my exposure to the financial world.
Previously, I spent some time working for a major commercial construction company where I was responsible for running the back office, occasionally overlooking data and logistics. Most of my time was spent in a financial controller capacity.
I write because I believe in sharing my findings and opinions with those interested so they may come to their own conclusions and in turn spark an intelligent and beneficial discussion.

Brad Hessel is an investment advisor registered with the state of North Carolina (USA). With a background in history and simulation design, he worked in information services for First Boston and Credit Suisse in the 80s and 90s and ultimately moved into the knowledge management field. He has managed funds for family and friends informally for thirty years. In 2003, he took on a knowledge management client who was planning to start a macro-based hedge fund. Work in support of that client demonstrated the potential of using a macro-based investment strategy both to produce a superior return on investment and to explain to clients the effects of macro trends on their lives, apart from their 401K balances. In 2006, Brad passed the Series 6 exam and Intelledgement moved into the investment advising service business.
