  • Ensco: A Great Buying Opportunity In A High-Yielding Stock [View article]
I like ESV fundamentally but my timing with it has always been terrible. But the yield is always a great risk mitigator while I hold it.

Regarding the factory strike, this is becoming really really common now, and is presenting a challenge for western management who are sourcing manufacturing there.

  • Bloomberg: Ballmer pushed for Nokia deal; Gates, Nadella initially opposed [View news story]
Does managing the most complicated weapons systems in the world count as zero tech background?

Which product set do you think is more complicated, the pilotless Little Bird and ICBM's, or Microsoft Excel and Paint?

Microsoft's products are technically a cake walk compared to those at Boeing.

  • Microsoft: If You Can't Beat Them, Join Them [View article]
I've already ditched Gmail and am using Outlook.com for that very reason.

The Google Buzz fiasco clearly demonstrated to me as a consumer how much Google cares about my privacy.

On top of that the Outlook interface is much cleaner and more modern than Gmail's.

  • Despite The Stock's Rally, HP Should Be Split Up [View article]
With anemic R&D, uninspiring products, and a history of dysfunctional leadership, there is not much to like about HPQ right now, it's just "less bad," than it was over the past 5 years.

The x86 server line they acquired from Compaq are actually pretty good, they are cheap and reliable, best bang for your buck, but that's about it.

I actually like the author's idea of at least breaking business units apart to unlock value.

Once a technology company runs itself through balance sheet analysis only, it no longer should be called a technology company.

Pretty cool vision. People blast Microsoft so much but their integration tools are often the easiest to use to connect all the dots, and as a strategy that was how they grew so big by focusing on all the plumbing like Active Directory or winning both client and server for managing the enterprise.

For other posters, the "M$" monikers stopped being cute about 1999 by the way lol.

  • It's Time For Bill Gross To Retire [View article]
Sorry Felix I love your articles, but this and the original WSJ article just sound over-the-top, sensationalist, and something out of a tabloid. There is also Schadenfreude tones that come with it. I am sure there is some real substance to it, however its presentation is where I start questioning the due diligence and the stretched conclusions that come with it.

Example - calling him "old" over and over again.

Confidence and skill in senior management are priceless attributes in any investment, however the presentation and the drama is where it gets a bit difficult to sift through for real information.

I am glad we have the equivalent of the Real Housewives series in the financial press now.
