  • American Investors Should Not Ignore This Car Company [View article]
Ford is doing fine but they sell a lot of low-margin cars. Ford's luxury segment needs to sell a lot more cars. Internationally, most of Ford's volume growth comes from tiny cars with limited margins.

That's true, it's also true for most Japanese stocks.

  • Are Ford's Bonds Preferable To Ford's Stock? [View article]
"The author uses as his basis for switching from stock to bonds the fact that 10 years ago the stock was trading at about the same price it is trading now."

Not really. If you actually took time to read the article, you would have seen that I am not arguing for switching from stock to bonds, not even close. I say that it depends on your goals and circumstances. You are basing your anti-argument on what you think this article is about.

Besides, you are telling us that Ford's jump from $4 to $16 was impressive while conveniently failing to tell us Ford fell from $16 to $4 in the first place. If you pick a convenient time period, you can make any argument.

Besides, Ford's bond price appreciated in price even more so than its stock price did between 2009 and 2014, so your argument loses even in your own hand-picked time period.

  • How NOT To Pick Your Stocks [View article]
Thank you for your comment. Sometimes things can get tricky in that regard because all companies may engage in activities we don't personally agree with. For example, many international companies might be involved in unethical activities overseas (e.g., using child labor in China) but making a political statement with investment might get things complicated.

Thank you for your comment. My next piece will try to address this issue. Many times, we don't have to know exact details of a company but it definitely helps to at least know how that company makes money in the most basic terms.

  • Long-time bond bull Robert Kessler takes a victory lap and says there's plenty of room for yields to fall further. That's bad news for stocks, he says, as low yields are forecasting lower profits. How to make money with these yields? Banks can conservatively lever 20-to-1, borrowing for nothing to make 15% returns. It's a casino, but the House (the Fed) is paying everybody to play and win.  [View news story]
This also means that mortgage rates may fall well below 3% in the future.

  • U.S. Demographics And The Likelihood Of A Housing Recovery [View article]
In Texas (particularly around Dallas) housing market seems to be doing fine. Last summer, there were many, many houses for sale in my neighborhood and as of right now, most of those houses are sold. I tried to buy a house in the last few months but every time I made an offer, I was outbid. Looks like bidding wars are alive and well in Texas.
