  • How Would The End Of The Fed's QE Affect Agency mREITs? [View article]
I'm still not sure when the Fed would taper off, but during times of uncertainty, it would be wise to diversify into REM if you want to reduce your risk and focus on capital preservation.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. In its definitely in terms of price. For eg., it means that the price of the numerator SHY is going up by more than the price of TLT or vice versa. The impact would be the opposite in terms of yield.

Thanks. In my view, CYS is also on the conservative side with large investment in 15Y fixed with some hybrid arms as well. It's one of the mREITs that i like right now because it's right in the middle between a conservative and risky strategy.

  • Agency MBS fail to bounce from the "massive liquidation" following Bernanke's testimony yesterday, according to CIBC's Tom Tucci. Suggestions of a tapering of Fed purchases sent Fannie Mae MBS with 3% coupons to their lowest levels of the year. "Right now it seems the only source of demand is the Fed," says BAML's Brad Scott. Unsurprisingly, pure agency mREITs like AGNC and ARR hit 52-week lows today. Annaly (NLY) - now diversified into the commercial space with the CXS purchase - outperforms[View news story]
^ The above link tells you why CMO would outperform during this period.

stkmentor, I understand where you're coming from but I don't think its that simple. I don't think any mREIT would want hold all their low-yield fixed rate CMOs for 10-15 years while interest rates are rising. It would be much better for them to take relatively smaller losses on selling these securities and using the proceeds to invest in higher yield securities when rates rise in order to increase the net interest spreads and long term benifits.

Also, when book values fall, these mREITs get margin calls so they would have to put more securities as collateral to borrow against, which decreases the leverage potential. So ultimately, a hit to book values would be a negative event, at least temporarily.

  • Nokia Lumia 925: Disappointed? - Not Really [View article]
There must be some other problem, I mean surely Nokia isn't selling 1000s of these devices worldwide from which you can't even make a call. Probably a network issue in your area.

  • The Tesla Motors (TSLA) Model S is the first car to achieve a score as high as 99 out of 100 in detailed testing from Consumer Reports since 2007. The publication bought a car anonymously in January and went through the Tesla experience from start to finish with hardly any hitches while being thoroughly impressed by performance (like a "Porsche") and energy efficiency. TSLA +23.3% premarket as the good news keeps piling in. [View news story]
Great execution from Tesla, both in terms of customer service as well its business model. http://seekingalpha.co...

I'd wait for the next nasdaq report to get a better picture on that but the short covering can take a long tome with this one. The next event trigger could be the upcoming supercharger announcement.
